Obituary of Charlotte Emmer Williams

Charlotte Monnahan Williams passed away on February 29, 2016 at the age of 93 at Ashley Manor in Twin Falls, Idaho. She was born in Denver, Colorado on September 4, 1922 to Frank and Linnie Hughes Monnahan. She spent her childhood in eastern Colorado where her dad worked on various sheep ranches during the Depression. She spent many happy hours working, playing and travelling to school on horseback with her beloved brother, Bob. Their younger sister, Marjorie, was born 12 years later and completed the family. At the age of 15, Charlotte was asked by relatives, Uncle Joe and Taddie Kohler, to accompany them to Twin Falls, Idaho in order to attend high school. She was excited for this opportunity and loved attending Twin Falls High School and working at the Roxy Theater box office for Uncle Joe. In the summer after her senior year, she was introduced to a young man, Sherman Williams, of Filer, Idaho. They spent many good times together before Sherm had to report for duty to an Army base in Kentucky. Charlotte then went on to ISU for a year. In 1941 an opportunity arose and Charlotte travelled by train to Washington DC – shortly after arriving, she had the good fortune of being hired by the Civil Service. She often talked about the excitement and stimulation of living and working in the wartime Capitol. Sherm took leave to visit Charlotte in Washington and, after several months, they became engaged. They returned home to Filer and were married on June 18, 1943. In 1945 their daughter Jeanne was born, then in 1949 daughter Nancy arrived, followed by Sally in 1952, and finally a boy, Bob, in 1956!! Charlotte was the backbone of the family, lovingly know by many names: Little Grandma, Grandma Carlotta and Momma Dear. She was a wonderful, calm and caring mother, always there for support and reassurance. What a quiet and gentle spirit. We are so grateful to have been with her when she passed away quickly and peacefully – a beautiful gift and blessing. Charlotte enjoyed playing bridge, bowling and her work with the Circle ladies of the Twin Falls Methodist Church. She was also an accomplished seamstress, making many prom formals for her three daughters. After Sherman passed away in 1984, she spent her retirement years at Lazy J where she took pride in her new mobile home! In 2014, when dementia changed her course, she moved to Ashley Manor where she resided comfortably for two years under the gentle care of many loving hands. Charlotte is survived by her sister, Marjorie Prudek of Buhl, Idaho; her brother-in-law, Dale Williams (Della Ann) of Filer, ID; her sister- in- law, Elsie Williams of McMinnville, OR; her children Jeanne Fitzpatrick (Terry) of Jerome, ID and granddaughter Courtenay Barlow of Palo Alto, CA; Nancy Williams of Hailey, ID, her grandson Jed Smith of Hanalei, HI and great- granddaughter, Natalia Smith of Newport Beach, CA; Sally Bailey (Jerry) and her grandchildren Chris, Lindsay (Shon) Baldwin and great-granddaughter, Bailey, all of Visalia, CA; Bob Williams (Patty) and her granddaughters Justine Williams of Boise, ID and Elizabeth Williams of Gresham, OR. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and their children. She was preceded in death by her husband, Sherman; both their parents; her brother and sister-in-law, Bob and Marty Monnahan; brother-in-law Jake Prudek; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Jeanne and Jack Williams; and sister-in-law and brother-in-law LaRee and Bill Scott. We would especially like to thank the wonderful girls at Ashley Manor for their love and care of Charlotte and all the nurses and caregivers from Hospice Visions. The family is forever grateful.
