Obituary of Charles Leonard Fisher

C. L. "Foggie" Fisher passed on Friday morning, October 28, 2016 one week short of his 95th birthday. He was born to Charles and Ina Ruth Fisher at a farmhouse south of Kimberly. They named him Charles Leonard but he was called by his middle name. When he was 5 they moved to a home near Kimberly where he was to live for most of his life. During his time in Kimberly schools he played trombone and was drum major. He attended U of I Southern Branch (now ISU) where he gained his lifelong nickname of Foggie. In the perilous early days of WWII he went to Seattle to work at Boeing and then returned to UISB and took flight instruction. During this time he was introduced to Pat Beem of Filer by a mutual friend. They were later married in his parents' front room while he was on leave to see his sick mother. On this October 19 they celebrated 73 years of marriage. He joined the U.S Army Air Corps as a pilot and at the age of 23 flew a C47 to Europe for the war effort. His oft told stories of those experiences would always bring Fog to his best, most engaged and engaging form. His work life included farming, farm management and real estate. He was always known for honesty and a desire that transactions be good for both parties. Foggie had many friends including a special bridge club that met twice most every month for over 45 years. Rotary was a beloved 40 plus year association and he served the Twin Falls Club as Treasurer and was a Paul Harris Fellow. He and Pat both volunteered at Magic Valley Memorial Hospital and he served on the Foundation Board during the transition to St. Luke's. He was a member and past president of the Blue Lakes Country Club and a CSI Foundation Board member (and loyal season ticket holder). He and Pat had 3 sons who all knew that he loved them and who gained from his wisdom and unique sense of humor. He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter-in-law Venessa Fisher, and his sister Joyce Stewart, whose husband Don remained as more than a brother-in-law, rather a devoted friend. He is survived by his wife, his sons Mike, Doug (Deb), Mark (Adrianne), grandchildren Geoffrey Fisher, Amanda Pikas, Grace Cramer, Tom Fisher, and Ryan Fisher, 10 great-grandchildren, and "always a daughter-in-law", Judy Whitely. The family would like to thank the caring staff at Syringa Place, St. Luke's Hospice and Dr. Steven Kohtz. In lieu of flowers memorials may be sent to Crossroads Methodist Church, the Charles and Ina Fisher and Art and Helen Beem Scholarship at CSI, or the St. Luke's Magic Valley Foundation. Services will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, November 5, 2016 at the Crossroads Methodist Church in Kimberly, ID.
