Fred was an excellent orthopedic surgeon, delightful man , and good friend. Whenever I referred a patient to him for surgery I knew they would get the best care possible.
He was witty and I always had fun with him. I will never forget when he quickly and easily ascended a 30 ft climbing rope at the Elephants Perch ski shop in Ketchum much to the astonishment of the much younger sales staff as he was then well into his 50's.
Bird hunting with him is memorable as he demonstrated his superior shooting skill by hitting the birds which I routinely missed.
Life will not be the same without him as his vitality and enthusiasm was infectious.

I am sorry to hear about the passing of Dr. Surbaugh. My mom had more than one surgery by this fantastic doctor and she used to brag to everyone she knew about how wonderful he was. I remember seeing him for my wrist and toe as a teen - he was wonderful. My condolences to his family.

Ah, I am saddened to hear of Dr. Surbaugh's passing. He was a great man. I only met him a few years ago here at Sawtooth Surgery Center. He was quite the character. Dr. Surbaugh was especially proud of all his children, as he talked about all of them every time he stopped in to visit us here! His visits here have been and will continue to be missed by all of us. My condolences to the family, prayers and blessings to you all.
Rest in Peace Dr. Surbaugh

We are heartbroken to hear of the passing of our dear friend, Fred Surbaugh. Over the years we have come to love and appreciate him as a loving, kind, intelligent, thoughtful man. He and his family have always shown his love for us. During some challenging times he and Charlene were very strong and kind. We are 7,500 miles away and so wish we could be there to hug the Charlene and the family. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. We look forward to seeing you in July. Keep smiling!

Fred always greeted me with a warm smile and twinkle in his blue eyes (and usually a word that would make me laugh). I will be forever grateful for the way he checked on me daily when I broke my leg in New Orleans and gave me encouragement and hope. Sending you all peace and love... Joanna, Scott, Clara and Patrick

Fred will be missed by both of us. When Ray was building Fred's home, they would spend many hours talking about finish work and home building. After that, fred would show up at our home, usually on a Saturday, just to talk. He was an amazing man our thoughts and prayers go to his family
