Obituary of H. David Phillips
Twin Falls
H. David Phillips, age 86, passed away early Saturday morning, May 27, 2017 at St. Luke's Magic Valley Regional Medical Center in Twin Falls, Idaho.
Dave was born October 5, 1930, in Arno, Missouri (near Ava) to Harry and Della Garrison Phillips.
He graduated from Kimberly (Idaho) High School in 1949. He enlisted in the Navy and served from 1949-50 and was in active reserves 1950-56.
On March 15, 1952, he married Laura A. Heaton in Twin Falls, Idaho and they were blessed with three sons and one daughter: Steven, Janice, David L., and Matthew.
The majority of his working career was spent as a meat salesman for Independent Meat Company, Zweigart Packing Corporation, and Boise Valley Packing. After early retirement, he and Laura owned and managed several rental properties. He enjoyed spending winters in Yuma, Arizona, drawing old barns and whimsical characters, fishing, riding motorcycles, and spending time with his children and grandchildren in California, Montana, and Idaho. He had a beautiful singing voice and sang specials at many weddings, funerals, and in his church. He was a member of the Assembly of God church for over 55 years.
Dave was preceded in death by his son Stevie (age 3), his parents Harry and Della Phillips, and his older brother Donald Phillips. Surviving him are his wife Laura of 65 years; daughter Janice Phillips Pollard (Brent) of Meridian, ID; sons David L. Phillips (Colleen) of Missoula, Montana; and Matthew Phillips (Holly) of Woodland Hills, California; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; a sister Geraldine Fletcher (Melvin); four nieces; and his beloved dog Nubbin.
Dad's final days were spent surrounded by his family and basking in their love and words of affirmation – a living memorial.
He left us an incredible legacy by surrendering his life to Christ at the age of 27. It took the tragic death of his young son, Stevie, to open his spiritual eyes. He loved sharing his faith every chance he got as it made such a profound effect on his life.
A celebration of his life is open to friends and family and will be held on Monday, May 27, 2017 from 1-3 p.m. at Rosenau Funeral Home, 2826 Addison Avenue E., Twin Falls, ID.
