Kathlyn Joyce McKown Coleman of Hazelton, ID, previously of Independence, KS, Kansas City KS, Manhattan, KS, Vegreville, AB, and Ashley, ND, went to her home in Heaven at 5:23 PM on Wed, Mar 25th, 2020. She was 76 years old. Kathlyn was born in Independence, KS on May 6th, 1943 to Samuel Arch McKown and Janie Pearl Wallace McKown. She was the third of six children. She graduated from Shawnee Mission North High School in Kansas City and Baker University in Baldwin, KS. She earned a Bachelors in Social Work. There she met James Lewis Coleman, DVM. In 1967, they were married. They had four children: Rebeca Coleman, Sara Stephens (Richard), John Coleman (Naomi), and Ruth McClimans (Josh). She has 17 grandchildren and one great-grandchild, Mazi. Kathlyn poured her life into her family. Her love and relationship with Jesus Christ was evident in all aspects of her life and she made sure that it was instilled in her children’s lives. She loved to read, to paint, and to care for children.
After raising her children she worked as a psychosocial rehab specialist, working mostly with austic children. Kathlyn is survived by three siblings, her husband James, her four children, all of her grandchildren and her great granddaughter. She is preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and three children miscarried. A celebration of Kathlyn's life will be planned for once family and friends are able to travel.
