First I would like to give my condolences to Terry, Linda, and Brian. I really appreciated Evan's obituary, I'm not sure who wrote it or if it was the work of a few people but it was excellent, so well written, I appreciated it very much. I have been friends with Evan for about 30 years. I was the music buyer at the Christian bookstore and he loved music, so he would come in a lot and we became friends, He is one of my few life long friends.
It is impossible to pick a favorite memory because there are so many, so I think I'll just list the awesome things about you; you were an endless fountain of kindness, you never met a stranger, fun and laughter flowed from your smile. Your ability to love others was authentic and genuine, when you gave your heart to someone it was a forever deal. You helped me and many others, be okay with who they were destined to be, your example encouraged so many others to accept and love themselves, living half a life never inspired anyone and you lived a full and wondrous life.
Evan, I'll never be able to say all the ways your friendship has magnified my life, so I'll just say thanks for loving Christian music and for walking into the bookstore 30 years ago. Thanks for holding out your hand and becoming my lifelong friend. You now know all the mysteries of heaven that we used to wonder about. You no longer need to imagine. Great will be the sing-a-longs and story telling around the campfires in heaven. Don't tell the one about when I fell off my motorcycle at the bank, that one's for me!!! I love you my friend.

I will remember you at Jaker’s, serving our food, but more importantly joking with us, making us feel like we were your only customer. RIP Evan knowing you were loved and will be missed by so many.

Not sure why the first pic is sideways- but I tried to fix it and couldn't. Evan Butler was an amazing soul, and a nearly perfect human being. He loved everyone, and never judged, no matter what you may have done in your past. Trust me, I know- Evan took care of my daughter, Maddie Jones, for about 3 years, from 2010 to 2013, because I was in the depths of my addiction to drugs. He and his (then) gf Kat took Maddie in for me, as I was unable to care for her myself, and they gave her an amazing life those 3 years. She bonded with Evan and his entire family during that time, and she called him her Uncle- altho he was more like a father to her. She still considers his parents, Linda and Terry, her grandma and grandpa, and always will. We adore the Butler family, and want to thank them, as well as Evan, for helping us thru such hard times, and for being there for Maddie and I both. We love you all so much. Evan is, and forever will be, loved and missed on a daily basis. This has been hard on every single person who knew Evan, this I know to be 100% truth. Goodbye, Evan Butler. Until we meet again... we love you.

Evan was one of the nicest young men I've ever met. He was also one of the all-time best servers in a restaurant that you could find. He helped our ladies "Friendship" group that met at Jakers and kept us laughing and having fun. The ladies will miss him a lot, since he was one of the very best people ever. Rest in peace, Evan. Love, Barb

I am deeply saddened to hear about Evan's sudden and premature passing. It was so much fun growing up with him. I have many fond memories of dirt clod fights, basketball games, and skiing at Magic Mountain with him. I am humbled and honored to have been his friend, and his courageous example will forever inspire me. I hope we can find solace in knowing that he lived his life to the fullest--appreciating everything around him and squeezing every drop out of everything he did. And that every person who crossed paths with him was better for it. Evan was the living embodiment of Shakespeare's famous advice:
"This above all: to thine own self be true,
And it must follow, as the night the day,
Thou canst not then be false to any man."
Farewell, my friend. I'll miss you.

I am sincerely sorry to hear of this life ended too soon. I have many fun childhood memories, including somehow knowing that Emily was meant to be Evan long before I was old enough to understand anything about that. Bless him for having the courage to be authentic. Thinking about you all during this time. -Karen (Strolberg) Martin

I never met Evan in person but I got to know him thru my sister, Abigail Elliott, who has been making a documentary on his life and transition. His untimely passing has been devastating to his family and friends. I send out many blessings to all those who are grieving and understandably so.
Kahlil Gibran on Death
You would know the secret of death.
But how shall you find it unless you seek it in the heart of life?
The owl whose night-bound eyes are blind unto the day cannot unveil the mystery of light.
If you would indeed behold the spirit of death, open your heart wide unto the body of life.
For life and death are one, even as the river and the sea are one.
In the depth of your hopes and desires lies your silent knowledge of the beyond;
And like seeds dreaming beneath the snow your heart dreams of spring.
Trust the dreams, for in them is hidden the gate to eternity.
Your fear of death is but the trembling of the shepherd when he stands before the king whose hand is to be laid upon him in honour.
Is the shepherd not joyful beneath his trembling, that he shall wear the mark of the king?
Yet is he not more mindful of his trembling?
For what is it to die but to stand naked in the wind and to melt into the sun?
And what is it to cease breathing, but to free the breath from its restless tides, that it may rise and expand and seek God unencumbered?
Only when you drink from the river of silence shall you indeed sing.
And when you have reached the mountain top, then you shall begin to climb.
And when the earth shall claim your limbs, then shall you truly dance.
Evan has become a light in the heavens and that is a light that cannot be extinguished...We will all meet there, some day...
