Obituary of Helen E Meyer

Helen Emma Hanna Meyer April 29, 1920 – February 18, 2021 I’m going home to Jesus; My life will soon begin; Earth’s ties will then be severed As heaven I enter in. Anon. Helen was born on April 29th, 1920 in Lincoln, Kansas to Ernest Meyer (Papa) and Clara (Meyer) Ludwig. At six months of age her family moved to Buhl, Idaho to the Clover Tract. They purchased the land a quarter mile west of what is now Clover Lutheran Church where they built a three-room house. In 1925 they built and moved into a new two-story home. She was one of six children. Helen had so many fond memories of growing up on the family farm. Helen had a special relationship with her Grandpa Fritz who lived with her family after the death of his wife, Helen’s grandmother, Caroline Thaemert. Fritz Meyer was the first of his family to move from Germany to America. He taught Helen and her siblings to speak, pray and sing in the German language. After 50 years of communicating with Grandpa Fritz’s relatives in Germany, Helen was able to travel to Germany to meet some of the family in May of 2000 and to see the family Meyer zu Reckendorf home place. Helen was a faithful member of her church all her life and as a teen was a member of the church youth group. She went to Clover Lutheran grade school for 8 years and Filer High School for 2 years. Because her family lived a quarter mile from the church and school, she and her siblings walked to school every day regardless of the weather. Helen loved crocheting, embroidering, quilting, sewing, gardening, canning and playing cards. Helen was engaged to the neighbor boy, Edgar Meyer on Christmas Eve of 1939. They were married on Sunday evening, July 7, 1940 and honeymooned at Cape Horn in the Sawtooth Mountains. They were blessed with six children, Clarene Adele, Ralph Gerald, Judy Laverne, Maurice Luther (who lived only a few hours), Pamela Louise and Marcia Ann. They farmed on the Clover Tract and upon retiring moved to Twin Falls, Idaho where they lived until Edgar’s death in January of 1991. After that Helen moved to Buhl where she lived until her death. She celebrated her 100th birthday in April 2020 with a wonderful drive-by celebration in her honor, during the time of a world pandemic. She was proceeded in death by her parents, Ernest and Clara Meyer, brothers Paul, Rudolph and Hugo, sisters Irene Adolf and Hilda Meyer as well as sons-in-law Steve Anderson, Ross LeMaster and Wayne Jagels. Helen’s living family members include her 5 children, Clarene LeMaster, Ralph (Maggie) Meyer, Judy Jagels, Pamela (Bill) Hueners and Marcia Anderson; sister Alma (Sam) Haverfield and sister-in-law Joanne Meyer. Helen has 19 grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren, 7 great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Helen’s family would like to thank the staff of River Rock Assisted Living for their loving care over 7 years and for Hospice Visions who were such a blessing in the weeks prior to the time of death. We have peace and comfort knowing that Helen is with Jesus and her beloved family who have gone before her. Due to Covid, Helen’s Celebration of Life service will be private, limited to family at 11am Saturday, February 27th at Clover Trinity Lutheran Church.
