Obituary of Michael Joseph Gleason

Please share a memory of Michael to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Mike was born on August 25, 1958 in Lincoln, Nebraska to John and Marge Gleason. His brother Pat was born a year later and Jeff four years later. Mike’s Dad was in the Air Force and they moved around a lot in his growing up years. From Nebraska where Mike was born, to Sacramento, CA to Merced, CA to Grand Forks, ND to Sunnymead, CA and back to Merced, CA. When Mike was in high school in Merced, CA, he met Carol Ross and started coming to meetings. He made his choice to serve God in 1975 at Gilroy convention. Mike and Marlene met at meat cutting day during Gilroy convention preps in 1979. There was a spark there, but they went their separate ways for the time being. During those years, Mike went to Chiropractic College and graduated in 1984. Mike and Marlene met up again in 1985 and were married in 1986. Marlene’s parents lived on the Gilroy convention grounds at the time, so seven years after meeting each other on those grounds, they were married there. Mike and Marlene started their married life in Ventura, and from there moved to Gilroy, Morgan Hill, Hayward, where they welcomed two sons into the family, Benjamin in 1992 and Kevin in 1993, then Manteca, Tracy, 29 Palms, Keyes and Livingston, in CA. Mike started his chiropractic career in Ventura, CA working for another chiropractor, but it wasn’t long before he started his own practice. The man who put up the signs in his new office asked him about a problem his dog was having, wondering if chiropractic could help. Mike contacted the American Veterinary Chiropractic Association, for advice and that was the start of him working on animals. Mike was soon taking the course offered by the AVCA, and before he even completed the course, he was asked to come back and teach. He taught in that course for several years, as well as a course in Australia for three years and a course in Colorado for a year or two. He was a natural teacher, and also enjoyed teaching his boys many life lessons and valuable skills. In 2002 Mike lost his faith in God, but he never lost his love for God’s people. God’s saints and servants were always welcome in their home. After working with Mike in his practice for several years, running the office, Marlene started working for her current employer, Dwayne, in 2012. In 2013 he told her that he was moving the office to Twin Falls, ID, and would like her to relocate there as well. Mike, Marlene, and Kevin made the move to Twin Falls, and what a wonderful move that has turned out to be. After moving to ID, Mike started coming to meetings again and made his choice to serve God in February of 2014. One of the things that drew Mike again was the love of God and his people. In fellowship meetings, he spoke of this love, often weeping. Mike had health issues for many years, and the last few years especially were not easy. But he never complained and his spirit was a great encouragement to those he was with. In December of 2020, Mike suffered a stroke after one of his many surgeries to fix his dialysis access. During Mike’s years on dialysis, Mike and Marlene often had the conversation as to when he had had enough, and the answer was always, not yet. After the stroke, Mike decided that it was enough. He came home from the hospital and went on hospice care. Even though the stroke affected his cognitive thinking, Mike was able to have many special, and often times hilarious visits with his family, the many friends who could stop by, and in phone calls with his brothers. Mike passed peacefully in his sleep on January 7th with just Marlene by his side. Their almost 35 years of marriage started with just the two of them, and ended with just the two of them. But there were many, many adventures during those years, and many special friendships established. And now we have great peace that Mike is reaping the benefits of what he lived for. Mike is preceded in death by his parents John and Marge Gleason and his mother-in-law Edith Denio. He is survived by his wife, Marlene, his sons Ben (and Christa) and Kevin; his brothers Pat (and Sandy), Jeff (and Brenda) and nieces, Amanda, Larissa and Kristin. He is also survived by Marlene’s Dad Mel (and Tammy), and her siblings Marilyn, Ginny (and Chet), Renee (and Tony), Ed (and Lisa), nieces and nephews, Tyson (and Victoria), Damon (and Katie), Justin (and Victoria), Quinn, Cassidy, Kayleen, and Camille, and great-nephew Grayson, and many, many special friends.
