Obituary of Frederick E Cole

Our beloved Fred returned to his heavenly Father on the evening of Aug 25th, 2021, surrounded by family and friends. On October 24th, 1947, Fred was born to Wilda and Carl Cole and older brother, Gary. From the beginning of Fred’s life,his family learned he was a miracle and an over comer as they watched him conquer pre maturity and three months in an incubator. Just before Fred’s 1st birthday, his little sister, Carleen, joined the family, and for the next seven years of Fred’s life he enjoyed being with his family. When Fred was 8, though, the California state agency determined Fred needed to live in a group home.For the next 33 yrs Fred lived in a few different group homes, but his last home and his favorite was with the Starkey family. Mr. and Mrs. Starkey taught Fred the value of good manners, hard work, and faith in Jesus. While with the Starkey family, Fred was able to compete in the Special Olympics and won various medals and ribbons especially in bowling which he loved to share about. Fred remained with the Starkey family until 1988 when Mr. Starkey passed, and Fred was joyfully reunited with his mom and siblings. For the next 25 years Fred and his mom took good care of each other, and Fred became reacquainted with Carleen and Gary and their families. He learned all about the Coast Guard from Gary and all about ranching and farming from Carleen and family. He also enjoyed becoming an uncle to Lisa, Johnny, Rick, Ron, and JoHelen; he was Uncle Freddy who could dish out the gentle teasing just as much as he received. During those 25 years Fred worked for Carl’s Jr and was even able to meet the owner and his wife, which was one of Fred’s favorite photos to share about. Also during this time, Fred found a love for the Sacramento King’s and River Cats thanks to his good neighbors and friends, Kevin Brenner and Gene Williams, and his brother-in-law, John. Fred so enjoyed going to games and collecting bobble-heads of his favorite players. In 2013, Wilda passed away along with Fred’s sister-in-law, Sidna; so big brother Gary and Fred became roommates and helped each other through their grief. Gary and Fred enjoyed going to church and fostering their love for Christ and going on various outings such as bowling and McDonalds, two of Fred’s favorite things. Then in 2017 Fred moved into his own apartment and for the next 2 yrs navigated through life with the help of friends and family, still enjoying going to church with his brother and bowling and dinners with friends. Fred had always had respiratory problems since being premature and living in an incubator for so long, but in the spring of 2019, his scarred lungs took a turn for the worst. His sister and brother thought they were going to lose him, but Fred overcame yet again. After being in and out of the hospital for 2 months, it was determined Fred needed more care so Gary and his wife, Rayeanne, lovingly opened up their home to Fred. Then after a few months, Fred moved to Idaho to be with his sweet sister,Carleen, so she could care for him, and he became her right hand man helping her with the smallest of things to the largest of things especially with her grief of losing her son and husband. Fred’s kind heart, his curiosity, and his spirit of adventure brought peace and excitement to anyone who was around him; he brought purpose to those who often needed it the most to help foster healing. In Idaho Fred found new adventures and new friends. He loved going with Carleen to the fairs, parades, and other community events and taking trips to town. He loved helping Lola and Darrell Fitzpatrick with the petting zoos, the Santa visits, and Ag days, and he loved going to the Brune children’s ball games. In 2020 Fred’s respiratory condition became so severe he was placed on Hospice. But, Fred was always an over comer and fought for life for the next year and a half. While on Hospice Fred was so blessed by Visions Hospice Foundation when they sent him and Carleen to Yellowstone where he was inducted as a Jr. Ranger, explored the amazing land, and saw buffalo and other wildlife up close. It was a journey of a lifetime, and Fred and Carleen made lasting memories. Also during that year and a half, Fred made more memories when he went to the Washington coast with Carleen where he put his toes in the ocean, explored the beautiful land, and was able to hangout with Lisa and his friends, Morgan, Brenda, and Alan. As Fred’s condition worsened, it became harder for him to get out, but he still enjoyed life fully. He loved his daily calls with his brother Gary and Rayeanne; conversations with Tom and Dianne Hanson and Brenda and Alan and Maureen Little; listening to his Gospel music; watching his cowboys and Walker, Texas Ranger; decorating for Halloween and Christmas; and waving at the train that passed daily by the house. He loved when friends and family visited especially when Lisa, Rick and Katie, Gary and Rayeanne, Maureen, Sheila and Charly, and the Brune family would visit, and he loved when the Mennonites visited and sang to him. Fred loved his arts and crafts and truly fell in love with pour painting where he was able to create beautiful works of art with Carleen and Lisa; he also loved sharing his artwork with others. Fred lived a full life and was so blessed by so many, many people, but the biggest blessing of all was for all of us having had Fred in our lives. His sweet soul, kind heart, curiosity, love for Jesus, and humor brought so much joy and light to our lives. Fred will be so greatly missed, but we know he is fully healed mind and body, and enjoying eternal life in heaven with his Savior and family. We love you, bud! Fred is survived by his brother Gary (Rayeanne) Abraham, sister Carleen Greber, niece Lisa (Gina) Greber and family, nephew Rick (Katie) Abraham and family, nephew Ron Abraham and family, niece JoHelen Abraham and family, and friends the Brune family, Hanson family, Liesen family, Fitzpatrick family, Keven Brenner and family, Brenda and Alan, Maureen Little, and many other friends. Fred was preceded in death by his father Carl, mother Wilda, sister-in-law Sidna, brother-in-law John, and nephew Johnny. The family would like to thank Hospice Visions and Bethany, Alice, Erica, Joel, Vince, Mike, and others for all their excellent care and friendship. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in memory of Fred to the Special Olympics, a local art outreach program, to Silver and Gold senior center in Eden, or to Hospice Vision Foundation so other clients may be blessed with making a life long memory. .
