Obituary of Mabel Fletcher

Mabel Heath Fletcher, passed away peacefully Thursday the 9'h of September 2021 in Wendell Idaho surrounded by her family. Mabel was born the 20" of May 1935 at home on the ranch on Clover Creek near King Hill Idaho, to Edwin D Heath and Sylvia L Hitesman Heath. Mabel was in a hurry to get in to this life arriving at only 7 months gestation and weighting only 4lbs 4oz. She was small but mighty, sleeping in a shoe box at first and then in a dresser drawer. She was the 9th of 14 children, 5 boys and 9 girls. She attended school in King Hill, walking a quarter mile up hill to catch the school bus. She loved hiking the hills, swimming in the creek, and playing with her brothers and sisters. Mabel learned early to work hard as there were many household chores and farms chores that needed tending to. Mabel was artistic and crafty and she loved to keep her hands busy. She enjoyed painting, knitting, embroidery, sewing and quilting. She was always knitting to embroidering while watching her soaps, dish clothes, slippers, tea towels, pillow cases, and she always had a stack of quilt blocks close by from a pattern she was working on. She was a gifted sewer, making some of her children’s clothes when they were younger, and when the grandkids started coming she sewed for them also, flannel shirts for the boys and granny gowns for the girls, and often a pair or two of tricot underwear. Mabel's gift in life was to Love and Care for others. Her home was always open to anyone needing either a place to sleep, a meal, or to hang out at the table for a rousing game of rummy. Her favorite saying was, “I’m somebody, cause God don't make no junk”. Her love and care for others was combined with her passion for Quilting. A quilt from Mabel was like a big bundle of her love wrapped around you! She loved quilting with her mother and making quilts for her children, grandchildren, sisters, and her church. Her children each had a special quilt for their beds designed just for them, and later on her joy was making quilts for her grandchildren. Not just one each, but many, all different colors, patterns and designs, and each block embroidered and hand stitched, sometimes a few bloody spots from a poked finger, and I'm sure a tear or two of joy. Each of her children received a special wedding quilt to help them start their new life with love from their dear mother, and later, as the grandchildren grew up, they also received their special wedding quilts. As Mabel grew older and her eyes were getting bad and her hands were beginning to give out, she knew her quilting days were coming to a close. She set out on a quest to make 2 baby quilts for each of her 11 grandchildren for her future great-grandchildren. What great joy she felt when she finished them and was able to give these beautiful gifts of love to each one of them. It was a beautiful day! Mabel was a wonderful wife, daughter, sister, friend, and mother. She was devoted and true, and always willing to help with whatever she was asked. Time spent with her family, children and grandchildren, was precious to her. Whatever her situation, happy or sad, her face would light up anytime her children or grandchildren came through her door. Her first grandchild was Jason, she was so proud of him and happy to be a grandmother and she enjoyed and loved each one as they came and would do all she could for them, giving selflessly of her time. She loves you all for the wonderful people you are! Mabel was married to Alton Mothershead on June 26, 1955, they had 2 children, Connie Lee September 1956, and Evan Kent August 1958. They divorced June 3, 1960. Mabel met and then married Bert Dale Fletcher July 27, 1963 in Elko Nevada, and became the mother to twin boys Jimmy Dale and Johnny Dee. (And never let them forget she was their mother!) Bert adopted Connie and Evan, and as a family they lived in Idaho for a short time, moving to Utah and then to Colorado Springs, Colorado, where they lived for 12 years, then back to Gooding Idaho in 1977. Mabel and Bert moved to Twin Falls in 1997, and enjoyed living closer to family and friends. They joined the Filer Lutheran Church and quickly became involved in church groups and activities. She was especially concerned with repentance and forgiveness and always wanted her savior Jesus Christ to be pleased with her. Mabel loved to fish with her mother and sister-in-law Lula in nearby rivers, and later on with friends Ron and his mother Lidia in the ocean on the Oregon Coast for salmon. Her love for water and her fear of drowning were a constant inner battle, so the life jacket went on as soon as she got out of the car! She once caught a salmon almost as big as her. She enjoyed gardening and working in her yard. Her flowers were always so beautiful, and every tree had a bird house hanging in it and every post had a bird house nailed to it. She loved sitting on a swing and watching the humming birds at the bird feeders. Mabel is survived by her daughter Connie (Robert) Tesser of Twin Falls, her son Evan (Joyce) Fletcher of Wendell, her son Jimmy (Toni) Fletcher of Nampa, and her son Johnny Fletcher of Twin Falls. Her grandchildren Jason (Jennifer) Drury of Boise, Noah (Brylee) Drury of Gooding, Holly (Josh) Kuns of Idaho Falls, Alissa (Ross) Pearson of Wendell, Cheyenne (Derik) Peterson of Wendell, Brandon Fletcher of Boise, Joseph Fletcher of Boise, Sheri’ (Tyler) Kepler of Boise, Jimie Jo (Jake) Jensen of Emmett, Jessie (Troy) Bratvold of Nampa, and Jacob (Alisha) Fletcher of Donnelly. And 23 Great-Grandchildren. Her sisters Rosalie Heath, Margie (Jerry) Anderson, and Joan Anderson of Twin Falls, Hazel (Mike) Nutsch of Nampa, and Becky (Michael) Anderson of Mackay. She was preceded in death by her parents, her 5 brothers, Edwin, Charles, Clarence, Fred, and Eldon, and her sisters Mary Ellen, Vera, and Louise. To her family she would say, “Be happy, love your Heavenly Father, do your best to be the best person you can be. I love you and I'm proud of you, you are all wonderful”!
