Obituary of Jack Charles Sherrill

Jack C. Sherrill, age 92, passed away on October 8th of natural causes in Twin Falls, Idaho. A life as long as Jack lived on earth, can only be described in many chapters. He was born and grew up in the small town of Seneca, Illinois with his parents, Jackson and Lola Sherrill and two sisters Dixie and Joan. Although he had little formal education, it was apparent early on that Jack had an entrepreneur’s spirit. At the age of twelve he recognized an opportunity to bring snacks to the workers at a large government war construction project that was close to his family’s small farm but a long way from town. He had earned some money cutting weeds, so he invested in some candy and snacks; and brought them to the workmen on the project selling the goodies at a profit. Before long he cleaned out a loafing shed near the road and set up store. The coke distributor loaned him a large coke cooler and he was in business. He had ice delivered by the ice man, soft drinks by the coke dealer, milk by the milk man, and sweets by the bread distributor. He even got his mother to make sandwiches to sell. His idea was so successful that his parents moved a large building onto the property and opened a neighborhood grocery store that served that growing wartime community for years. Jack left home to see the world at the age of 15. Lying about his age, he hired on as a crew member on one of the tugboats that pushed and pulled the barges up the river. At age 18 he joined the Navy. Jack ended his maritime adventures in San Pedro, California. Where he met and married Mona Placentia and started their family. After several years working as a plumber, he and his best friend, George Brazil formed a partnership and started their own plumbing Company. George Brazil Plumbing became the largest plumbing company in the State of California and is now franchised though out the United States. Jack retired from the plumbing business in 1988 and moved to Twin Falls, Idaho. There he found his niche in real estate, investing in everything from motels, office building, apartments, mobile home parks and even a small farm. In the last few years, he and Linda became snowbirds spending winters in Arizona in the winter and Idaho in the summer where they enjoyed golf and an active social life. Jack is survived by his wife of 18 years, Linda Lawrence Sherrill, daughters, JoAnn and Jacqueline, son. Daniel, Stepson, Chad, sisters Dixie Nothwang and Joan Gavin and 14 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his first wife Mona Placentia and his youngest son, Kevin. Although he had two successful careers, Jack was proudest of his 39 years AA achievement award. He was loved by many and admired and respected for his accomplishments and will be missed by his many friends and family.
