Obituary of Marvin Leroy Prescott

“Bud” Marvin Leroy Prescott, lifelong Twin Falls resident, friend, father, and grandpa died December 16 at the age of 87. Bud was born May 20th, 1934 in Twin Falls, ID to Irvin and Alice Prescott. In 1936 he was diagnosed with Polio and spent much of his childhood in the hospital’s children’s ward where doctors told him he would not walk. He made it out of the hospital and did much more than simply walk; he never let his leg slow him down, living to a very rare, seasoned age for Polio survivors. In the hospital he kept himself occupied by trying to make the other Polio children in the beds next to him laugh and frequently said and lived by “there is always someone else worse off than you.” Out of the hospital his childhood was filled with showing ponies, a hobby/occupation that his dad picked up specifically to help strengthen Bud’s Polio debilitated leg. As a Polio survivor, his dad and other adults always referred to him as “little buddy” which effectively summed up his personality. For the rest of his life, he was always known as “little buddy” and eventually “Bud” Prescott. In 1954 he graduated from Twin Falls high school and went on to adventures rodeoing and ranching. Then he met and married the love of his life, Alice Romans in 1955, a marriage of 66 years. Bud and Alice raised three children; Wade, Shane, and Pamela on the desert canyon rims above Shoshone Falls, their lifelong home since marriage. The couple raised their kids in the western way of life rodeoing, hunting, and always recreating in the great outdoors teaching them to enjoy life to its fullest. Likewise, Bud has always liked kids, young and old, many of whom over the years came to their home to learn to ride rough stock, rope, keep horses, and hunt, becoming just like family to Bud. Above all else, Bud was a friend, dad, and grandpa. He spent his whole life on adventures hunting, recreating, cowboying, and exploring with his childhood friend Bud Sweet. Bud, as a dad, always supported his kids in their endeavors from horse barns to Arizona ranches and equipment. Lastly, grandpa Bud never missed a grandkids rodeo, no matter how far away it was and was always willing to take to the mountains four-wheeling or snowmobiling. Bud is survived by his wife Alice, three children Wade (Gwenna), Shane (Rebecca), and Pamela, five grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his grandson Buster, lifelong best friend Bud Sweet, and brother Everett.
