Many of my best childhood memories are connected to Uncle John and Aunt Wanda, and of course, Connie, Mike and Nancy. We took only one vacation a year. Almost always in the summer. Dad, Mom and my two brothers would drive (always in one very long day) to Twin Falls, Idaho to visit Grandpa and Grandma and Uncle John and Aunt Wanda. It was very different than NW Washington. Dry, hot, canyons and sand. Aunt Wanda would make us waffles and they always had the best variety of sweet cereal. They also always had pop, which was good because the water tasted funny. Uncle John would take us places. Sometimes to a canyon for a hike, or to a gym to play basketball, or to go swimming. It was always fun. We would have sleepovers at their home, sometimes in their backyard and we would sleep right on top of their trampoline. Uncle John would tell us scary stories, but not too scary. And we would play and play with Connie, Mike, and Nancy. Again, some of my fondest memories. Thank you, Uncle John and Aunt Wanda.

Brother Jean Louise writes this. “We kind of grew up in pairs, first was Wes (Jr.) & sister Wanda Lee, then James Richard, & Jerry Weldon, then Jean Louise & Joe Don, and finally John Albert & Jay Swain. So that's Jr., James, Jerry, Jean, Joe, John and Jay, and Wanda. Seven brothers and one lucky sister. We were all baptized Christians in the Church of Christ. We all graduated from high school, and John went to Yakima Junior College. I don’t think we ever had a family feud. We were a close family. We will miss our brother John Albert." Photo is of Jean and John hugging goodbye at the end of our stay at John's, July of 21.

John became our insurance guy in 1992 until he abandoned me when he retired. I had the best agent ever who worked hard for my business. I always looked forward to visiting the office. I would take a stack of papers to his office and asked why I needed this and he would go through and throw away everything except what I needed. This became a visiting ritual. We would talk politics, he'd shake his head and say he couldn't quite agree with me. We would talk about a lot of things and when I went through several deaths he told me to touch the person in the casket for it will help you with closure. I have done that ever since. I told him I liked the two white chairs in the office and when he retired he showed up with the chairs. I said I only want one and he said I had to take all three. He gave me a '"life is Good" sticker one day when I was down. He came to an instrumental concert at my church after discussing music. Insurance was how I met him but he was a very important trusting ally. I am so grateful that he was in my life and the things he taught me. People may never know the impact they have but he made the world a better, happier place.

I am very saddened to hear of Johnny's passing. As a teammate during our high school years, I can attest that he was indeed a "super stud athlete". I recall he was also voted the best-looking guy in his senior class. Even more, he was about the nicest guy to be around you could ask for. Rest is peace Johnny. You were truly the best.
