Obituary of Delbert McGuire

Clarence Delbert McGuire of Twin Falls, devoted husband, amazing daddy and grandfather, loving brother and faithful friend passed away peacefully at his home on February 1st, 2022, at the age of 90. Del was born to Clarence and Fay McGuire on December 9th, 1931, in Meridian, Idaho. He graduated from Meridian High School in 1949 with a class of 80 students many of which were lifelong friends. He participated in many student clubs, sporting activities and could always be found in the clarinet section of the band. He attended Boise Junior College for 3 semesters before enlisting in the United States Navy to serve in the Korean War in 1951. He was offered a post with the Navy Band, but his love of aviation and photography won out and he accepted a post in reconnaissance as an aerial cartographer with the Naval Airforce. He served in many places over his four years of service after which he was honorably discharged in 1954. After his service he returned to finish his degree in Business Administration at BJC. His first job was delivering the Grit newspaper as a boy, and he later worked along side his father, mother and uncles hauling milk in the greater Treasure Valley area. While in Korea his father and uncles got involved in the trout farming industry in southern Idaho. When he returned stateside, he planned on resuming the milk hauling operations, but his father fell ill and he was needed at the trout farm, and it was then he moved to Twin Falls Idaho. It was in Twin Falls where he met the love of his life, Norma Jean, at a local dance. He was a handsome gentleman. They quickly fell in love and married August 25th in 1961. Together they raised 5 children, and were blessed with 11 grandchildren, and 14 great grandchildren. In 2021 they celebrated 60 years of marriage. After many years at the trout farm working and raising a family, Del hung up his waders. He began working at Monroc concrete where he drove truck. He made the drive to the Bellevue plant nearly every day and retired after 15 years of loyal service. Del not only served his family and country but his community as well. He served as the athletic director in the Twin Falls LDS West Stake for over 20 years. There he was a beloved referee and umpire for baseball, basketball, and volleyball. He also volunteered with the Twin Falls Parks and Recreation basketball programs where he officiated youth basketball. He loved the game but most of all he loved the rules and teaching the kids, with loving kindness, why he had to call that foul. Del also served his community by participating as a member of the Jaycee organization and even ran for city office. Del loved to hunt and fish. He loved his garden where he spent many hours every season growing the best red spuds you could ever eat. He loved to read westerns, non-fiction, and fictional military stories, again and again. He was a beloved member of the Friday PM Senior Bowling league. He loved to laugh and tease his family. He loved to eat anything his personal chef Jean would whip up and serve, particularly her famous pies and fried chicken. He loved his Boise State Broncos, Utah Jazz and especially college football and basketball. Most of all he loved his family. He was a kind and gentle. His grandchildren were all better for the lessons he taught them by the way he lived. He was their friend, mentor, coach, and support through thick and thin. Together he and his wife, Jean built a beautiful life, and he will be deeply missed. He is survived by his spouse, Norma Jean McGuire, sister Vanita Law, and his children Rick Jepson, Brenda Valletta, Tina Kappes, and Shawna Forsmann. Grandchildren: Sarah Allen, Jarrod Jepson, Nichole Wilson, Alexander Botello, Esmeralda Botello, Benjamin Botello, Tyler Ross, Dylan Ross, Ashley Mills, Michael Ross, and Justin Ross and 14 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents Clarence and Fay McGuire, and daughter, Sharane Jepson.
