Richard was a hard man to beat at a game of horseshoes; he never bragged about his game, but put the proof on the peg! As my Dad (Bob Wilcox) said, we went to Idaho every summer for vacation time. One of the things that I anticipated was the stories that would be told when Dad and his siblings got together. I had several favorites. One was of a horse they owned in Montpelier that when the boys would ride, he would take the bit in his teeth and run, and the things that happened as a result of the horse doing that. Hard to believe they were told not to ride the horse when no adults were around! Another story that I never tired of was the story of Sweeneys lost gold mine in the South Hill near Hanson Idaho. I had many dreams of finding that gold myself, though I have not ventured into the south hills in my adult life. Another story is the one I am going to tell. I do not know the facts so I am going to tell it as I see it in my minds eye. I will call the story Betty Wee and the rogue tire. One day Richard and Dad, with nothing better to do, was playing with a tire. As they were taking it up a hill to see how far it would roll after reaching the bottom, Richard saw Betty sitting at the bottom of the hill making a daisy chain, minding her own business. Richard told Dad to continue up the hill and he went to talk to Betty. Richard caught up with Dad and said “this is far enough”. To Dads surprise, Betty was standing in the path that Dad perceived the tire would take. Richard had realized that the farther the tire rolled the farther they would have to go to recover it, and asked Betty to stop it for them. Dad had his doubts but Richard told him that it would be fine. As the rogue tire started down the hill, they watched as Betty made adjustments to the right and then to the left with her arms held wide to receive the tire; then the tire was upon her, knocked her flat and gone! To find out the truth of the story Dad or Betty will need to be consulted. The greatest story of Richards life is that he received Jesus as his personal Saviour and that all believers will be reunited with family and loved ones in heaven in the future. And the ones that are home in heaven are united now. We know that Richard is alive and with God and loved ones. The Bible says in Matthew 22:32 ?"I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob. He is not the God of the dead but of the living." Richard we will see you soon.

Joseph Richard Wilcox I would like to share a few found memories of my growing up years with my brother Rich. I am two years younger than him. We spent a lot of time doing things together along with the other boys of the neighborhood. Our family lived in Monpeiler until I was six, Rich was eight and Glenn nine. Glenn asked our granddad why he wouldn't let us three boys stay with him. He told him, that one boy is a boy, two boys are half a boy and three boys are no boy at all. I guess the three of us together was trouble! We moved to Murtaugh and lived in a little cabin in Gouchville. Dad got behind on the rent money and Mr. Gouch had us move. We moved to a log cabin across the field. While living there us kids become very ill. I believe there was five of us then. The DR. didn't know what our illness was. We were under quarantine so dad couldn't stay with us. Mom had to take care of all us by herself. Dad would come and bring supplies and leave them on the porch and talk to mom through the window and then leave. It took us a while to get our strength back. We all made it through! What a job mom had taking care of us! We had fun learning to swim in the Snake river. I don't think our folks knew we were down there and some of the chances we took. We uselessly had an older friend with us, Joe Rhoads. One time when we went back to Monpeiler for a visit Rich and I found a swimming hole. Rich went in and I asked him how the water was and he said, "Fine, come on in". I took my clothes off and jumped in. When I hit the water it almost paralyzed me. When my head come up out of the water he was laughing at me. That was the end of the swimming! One fine summer day Rich took me for a ride on an old bike without breaks. I was riding on the handlebars. We headed for the canyon and down the grade we went. It was the ride of a life time!! Just before coming to the last curve we saw a cow crossing the road in front of us. Rich had his foot between the fork and the tire trying to slow us down. We made the curve, missed the cow and was somehow was still alive when we leveled out on the bridge and come to a stop! When I was twenty years old I moved my family to CA. Every year we looked forward to vacation time when we could go to Idaho and see all my family. We would all together at Mom's and have a good time. What a house full as all of our families were growing! You could say that was when the family reunions started. One of the things we did while there was to pitch horse shoes, sometimes until after dark. The players were Glenn, Rich, Bob, Bill and Carl. As the sons were growing, they joined in also. It has been great having the Family Reunions for over thirty years! I enjoyed getting with Wendell, Betty and Rich last year and reminiscing about our old times. Rich always had that chuckle just before he shared. I will miss him but I'm thankful for the good times we had together Your brother, BOB (Sent by Lucy & Danny)
