Obituary of Edie Barkley

Edith (Edie) M. Barkley age 82 passed away with all three of her children at her side on Sunday, June, 12, 2022. Edie had recently taken up a new residency at Brookdale Assisted Living in Twin Falls, and had made more friends and memories. The staff at Brookdale were amazing to our mother, and we truly appreciate the care they provided. The family would like to also thank the caring staff of Visions, especially her nurses, Steve and Jonnie. Edie was born in Hanford California on April 22, 1941. Her family moved to McGill, Nevada where she graduated from White Pine High School in Ely, Nevada. She married Gary J. Copen on August 1, 1959, and had three children, and later divorced. She met her soulmate and the love of her life Don Barkley and united in marriage on December 19, 1975. They had a wonderful 42 years together until Don’s death in 2018. Edie was a very talented bowler and loved playing the sport locally as well as travel leagues and out of state tournaments. She won many trophies and ribbons throughout her life. Mom and dad loved being outdoors and enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping together. They traveled together and visited family across the US when they could, and loved the occasional trip down to Jackpot. Edie was preceded in death by; her husband Don Barkley, her parents John and Eula Hines, three brothers, Sam, Johnny and Harvey Hines, and her son-in-law; Todd Besler. Edie is survived by her children; Debi (Ron) Blair, John (Susan) Copen, and Mary Besler. Her brother Andy Hines, and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren A memorial service will be held at In His Name Christian Fellowship located at 404 US Hwy 30, in Filer on Friday, June 17, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. with an inurnment to follow at Snake River Canyon National Veteran’s Cemetery in Buhl. The funeral home of Rosenau is assisting the family with arrangements. Our mother left an imprint in our hearts that we will all cherish and live by. She will be missed greatly but at peace in heaven; till we meet again mom.
