Joseph Ashby Coffman, 85 of Twin Falls passed away Saturday, December 15, 2012 at his home. Joe was born April 18, 1927 in Farmington, Missouri to Charles and Margarite Coffman. At the age of 17 Joe wanted to join the military, having completed high school in three years. His parents were in the process of getting him an appointment to Annapolis when he joined the Navy. Having been an Eagle Scout and in the Home Guard he was able to skip basic training and boarded the USS Fiske as a plank member. After his discharge he attended Rolla School of Mines becoming a chemical engineer in three years instead of four. He worked for McDonald Douglas Aircraft and later working for A O Smith. Joe later moved to California where he started his own business. After retiring he went into the financial services industry and worked until 2006 when he retired again. Joe loved boating, fishing, and hiking. Joe was a member of the Sons of the American Revolution, CLU, LUTCF, DAV, VFW and the American Legion Post #7. Joe is survived by his wife Patty; Sister Octavia Bauroth; five sons, Joe Jr., Tom, Steve, John, and Phillip; 4 daughters, Mary, Cathy, Annie and Julie as well as their spouses. He was preceded in death by his parents Charles and Margarite Coffman and his sister, Margarite Coffman. Memorial contributions may be made in Joe’s name to any local veteran’s organization or the First Church of the Nazarene. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am, Thursday, December 20, 2012 at the First Church of The Nazarene, 1231 Washington St. N., Twin Falls. Burial will follow at 3:00 pm at the Idaho Veterans Cemetery in Boise. All veterans are welcome to the services for Joe. Military Honors will be given by the Idaho National Honor Guard and the Magic Valley Honor Guard. Services are under the direction of Rosenau Funeral Home.
