A little history: My parents, Ned and Alvira Comfort, built a basement house in Buhl that my parents and 3 kids moved into in1947. My father died 1958 and Mom later sold the house with 2 acres and moved to California. This was my home until 1959 when I graduated from college. As an example of how we lived, it was my job to pump the water from our well and bring it into the house. My brother Jim had the job of hauling the waste water out of the house. We must have been poor but I never thought of it that way and still don't . . . it was a happy home. The McRoberts bought the "basement house" and built their house over the basement. The basement house was designed for this from the beginning. My wife and I just showed up at Irene's door one day when we were visiting in Buhl. We told her who we were and she made us feel right at home. Irene has been a special person to us since our first visit. She gave us a tour of the house, the basement was how I remember it with an added stairway up to the new house. She also showed us her collection of Formica tables and the dolls in the basement. I still care about the place, so I was very pleased to see how well the house and grounds have been kept. I will surely miss Irene on our next trip from California to Buhl . . . whenever that is. We also enjoyed talking with her Buhl neighbor, our old neighbor, Lucile Miller. - Arlen Comfort Class of BHS 1955 acomfort@rocketmail.com
