Well its been two weeks today that Holly left us. There was so much more I wanted to say at her service but my grief held me back. Holly always paid forward whatever she learned and somtimes mastered, she then taught others from dance to her music education and base jumping. After the service I had two men come up to me one was a base jumper that told me how Holly spent a full day on the bridge helping him with his jumping and how much she helped him. And another that was battleing cancer and he told me how much Holly help him just by being a friend and talking with him during his treatments. Its easier now to look back and understand how much Holly did in her short time with us, but its still difficult to belive she isnt her with us. Thanks to all who attended her service and all of those that have sent cards, letters and posts sharing your thoughts and prayers. Rex

My BASE Story As I was standing on the edge of the Perrine Bridge after climbing over the rail the other day, a memory from my childhood came rushing back. My mother and I were driving across the Bridge. Halfway over she let out a gasp that made me jump. Confused, I asked, "What happened?" "Some guy just jumped off the bridge, and I thought he was committing suicide," my mother said. I continued to look confused. She explained how these crazy guys jump from objects with parachutes in a sport called BASE jumping. My left foot began to quiver, bringing my mind back to the present. As I leaped off the bridge a calm realization came over me, "I do that. I'm one of those crazy guys." Learning to skydive and eventually to BASE jump has been an experience that has, and continues to, change my life. After first discovering BASE jumping the thought to do it was always in the back of my mind. Years later an enrichment course in the history and ethics of BASE was offered at the local college, and I quickly signed up. I became obsessed with the class the first day. While BASE is not a regulated sport, it is recommended to be an experienced skydiver and involved in the BASE community before making a fixed-object jump. I decided to get involved with the community that weekend. My instructor was having dinner for all jumpers that were in town, and he invited me to join them. While dinner was ordinary enough, the conversation was filled with stories about jumps and questions concerning gear configurations-most of which went over my head. I was teased for my lack of knowledge of the BASE language. Being taunted about three ways, soft cocks, and horny gorillas left a lasting impression. The jumpers accepted me. I hadn't made a single jump-I hadn't even touched a parachute, and they already knew I was one of them. By the end of the month-long class I had learned how to pack a BASE parachute, and I soon started packing for a local jumper who jumped the bridge four times every morning. Hanging out at the bridge I was asked tons of questions by the spectators. "Where do you jump from? Do you land in the water? Isn't that illegal?" I would gladly share my newly acquired knowledge of the sport. "We jump from the middle of the bridge and land in the field on the east side of the river. BASE is never illegal off the Perrine Bridge, and while it isn't expressly illegal at most places in the world, some jumpers use illegal means such as trespassing to get to an exit point." Ten days after graduating from high school I took off, by myself, on a ten hour drive, to a town where I didn't know anyone, to learn how to jump out of planes. I did my first skydive fifteen minutes after pulling into the parking lot. It all happened so fast I didn't even have time to be scared. That night I set up my tent at the airport and hung out with the guys who lived and worked there. The evening reminded me of the first time I had dinner at my instructor's house, except this time nothing went over my head. I started my training the next morning. After a few hours of ground school working on flying the parachute, I loaded into the Cessna with my instructor Will. A few minutes later we had reached 3,000 feet and it was time to get out. Will opened the door. I instantly thought I was going to get sucked out of the plane, and I tightened up. Will leaned over, kissed me on the cheek, smiled, and gave me the command, "Step out!" I swung my legs out of the plane, put my feet on the wheel, and looked back at Will. "Swing out!" he yelled over the sound of the plane and the rushing wind. I reached for the strut, grabbed on, and slid my hands toward the tip of the wing. I hesitated for a brief moment before letting my feet slide off the wheel. Hanging on to the strut, I once again looked at Will. "Go!" I took a deep breath and let go. My mind raced for the brief seconds before the static line caught, and suddenly I was under canopy. Everything slowed down again. I guided the parachute to the landing area, and made a nice, soft landing in the field

In August of 1990, Holly was my "Little Flower Girl" in my wedding. Holly was about 3 years old and so pretty in her pink dress. The photographer also adored her because I received lots of picture of Holly that day. She was an amazing woman and very smart. I have never known a young lady that had such a bright future planned out at a young age and ready to follow the path she so very much wanted to pursue. My thoughts and prayers are with Rex , Trevor and Linda now and forever.... Holly you will Always be in my Thoughts and Forever in My Heart. Love you, Aunt Paula & Uncle Alan Salsgiver

On Saturday 11/23/2012 Linda, Trevor and I took Holly to her place at Sunset Memorial Park. She has a very pretty bench and a head stone. It is located next to a creek just across from the playground. Ive added a few pictures and will add a few more later. When you can stop by and visit.
