I will miss my Grandma: This Grandma came all the way from Texas to stay with a scared little 5 yr old girl for a whole month while Momma & Daddy were taking care of and welcoming her new baby brother! There were some troubles, so Mollie was REALLY glad to have those BIG bear hugs and ...a familiar lap to climb up in...even though I was only 5, I clearly remember this and am still grateful! Little Mollie thought that it was cool that this Grandma's birthday was the day before her own, on January 8, the same day as Elvis'! This Grandma thought that little Mollie was sweet, but a bit too much of a tomboy in grade school...so whenever she came to visit (every time!), out came the pink sponge rollers, the rat-tail comb, and a bowl of water...let the rolling (and special attention!) begin! After an uncomfortable night sleeping in the rollers, VOILA, a head full of blond ringlets! Later, when I was in high school, I was being sort of a typical, self conscious teenager and was (SHAME on me) feeling kind of embarrassed for my long-time boyfriend to meet my sort of pleasantly plump, short, little, bear-huggy--even if she just met ya--red headed, bouffant hairdo-ed, eye-brows painted on (too much plucking as a girl), Texas drawlin' Grandma--but she was warm and wonderful and funny and dinner at her house was great! Grandma was able to meet my husband Butch and my son Cameron, which I am glad of. I wish she could have met met my brother Lee's wife, Angie, and their kids Jesse & Emilee too, but circumstances, time and distance took their toll...we all lived far apart these last years and didn't talk or write as often as we should have, but despite all of that we felt the LOVE. We will miss Grandma now, and we missed her before...so friends, learn from us! You always tend to think that you've got time to "do it later," but sometimes things sneak up on you...we say it all the time, but truly: take that few minutes to give a call, jot a quick note, go visit if you can. Grandma Barbara always seemed appreciative of the things that DID happen, not regretful of those that, for whatever reason, didn't. So, on this bright, sunny, beautiful springtime day I am going to remember her joyful spirit, literally 'take-your-breath- away' HUGE bear hugs, love of us and life, and smile with my memories! ~~My brother Lee McVey & I Mollie K. McVey Eisele, are Barbara's Grandkids, son & daughter of her son Gene McVey. She has Great-Grandson's Cameron & Jesse and one Great-Grand Daughter, Emilee.~~We love our Grandma! :)
