Nelda was such a gracious, lovely lady. Looking back as an educator now, I especially appreciate the work she did with us 4-H kids. Her "judging" of our work was actually a one-on-one learning experience. I didn't know then what a gift she was giving us. It was a technique I tried to remember many years later when I found myself wearing the judge's shoes. I also remember her and Howard's generous, sensitive kindness when my sister died thirty years ago. The two of them have had a positive influence on hundreds of lives.

To the members of Howard and Neldas family. I met Nelda through my cousin when I was in highschool. I began cleaning her and Howards home every Saturday for over a year. Nelda was such a sweet and caring woman. She began asking for my help in other places also and I began helping her put together her photo albums and spending a couple of days a week with her. She told me she loved me like a grandaughter and I very much enjoyed hearing stories of her family who she was so proud of. My grandmother passed away in 2003 shortly before I graduated from highschool. Howard and Nelda attended my graduation and though Nelda said she would never replace my grandma she told me how proud she was of me and that she would love to to be my grandma. I lost touch after my first son was born in 2005 and visited only once for to meet him. i have so many memories of her and loved her very much. I am very sorry for her familise loss

I love Mrs. Ronk. I will always be grateful for her positive influence on me and my friends. Nelda always welcomed us young teenage boys to blast our guitar amplifiers loudly in her basement and it wasn’t always music! I’ll always remember her as a great woman of love, service, example, encouragement, friendship and cheer. Thanks Cyndy, Jay and Jeff for your friendship. Love your great family! --Grant Salisbury

Hello Cyndy and members of Nelda's family, I'm thinking of you all and will miss your mother, grandmother and great-grandmother also. I worked with Nelda for years through the 4-H program in Cassia County. She helped so many youth, beyond her club and classroom in Twin Falls County, gain an appreciation for sewing as well as hone their skills. She instilled confidence in others through her teaching and in her judging work. Nelda set the bar for excellence in clothing construction! She was a thorough evaluator, but also inspired 4-Her's to improve their skills. She personified the 4-H motto: To make the best better. When the "Make It Yourself With Wool" contest was held in the area, Nelda was definitely the "go to" lady if you had a question about a complex technique. Through her, so many young women would sew and enter year after year in hopes of winning an award. Of course, they gained a lifetime skill and developed self confidence in the process! I also enjoyed Nelda's ready smile, quick wit and insight into working with others. Her passion for teaching was so obvious that I wanted to learn as much as I could from her. She will be greatly missed by so many whose lives she invested in and helped grow. I was delighted when Cyndy joined the UI Extension Service in Jerome County. She, like her mother, brought energy, expertise and the team player attitude to our faculty. Nelda was a very special lady and I join you in remembering a life very well lived. Her legacy continues through you and those she helped along the way. Sincerely, Joan Parr, UI Extension professor emerita

To the Ronk family, I have just read your mother's obituary on the Times News web site. Cyndi may remember who I am but the rest of you won't know me. However, I want to send my condolences to you. My contact with your mother was through tailoring classes I took at CSI. I became an instant admirer of hers. She had such great talent and ability and was so willing to help others no matter how simple the questions might be. After the classes ended it was always a treat for me to meet up with her occasionally. She was always pleasant and had a smile for you. This past summer I thought of her several times and kept thinking I would like to locate her and see if I could visit with her. Unfortunately, I didn't act on that and now it's too late to let her know what a special person I knew her to be. Sincerely, Merna Johnson

That was a lovely service for Nelda. What a handsome family she has and I'm sorry that I couldn't stay after to meet and greet. My husband has health issues and later that afternoon I had to attend my church for Feast of the Immaculate Conception services. As I mentioned in my card, I had many nice visits with Nelda while she was at Chardonnay. I remember taking Cookie, my Shih tzu to visit Nelda. The funniest thing about my visits with Nelda was that she kept telling other residents that I was the teacher that had the "crush" on Jeff. Now, Jeff, you were a favorite student and I did like the baby outfit that you brought me for my newborn daughter. But, my hubby of 46 years would be put off by a "crush." Your mother was a delightful lady, I enjoyed my visits with her and she will be sorely missed. Today when I took Cookie for a walk through Thomsen Park I had a lump in my throat when I passed by Chardonnay. Carol Bearup

Both Nelda and Howard were wonderful people. I met Nelda when I was in high school when I got a job at the fabric store. I worked through school and after I was first married.. She helped me on my projects and taught me alot about sewing with wool, resulting in some beautiful things. She was so kind and thoughtful, and if it was possible for her to hep, you could always count on her. I Know she will be really missed by all her family and friends, but will be glad to go home to join Howard and Niki.
