Obituary of Cathleen Marguerite Orr

Marguerite Orr, 86, passed away Monday, March 1, at her home in Hazelton, Idaho after a long illness.
The fourth child of John and Marie Trappen O’Connor, she was born April 3, 1923, on the family farm near Eden, Idaho. She moved with her family to the Twin Falls area, finally settling in Filer where she worked on the farm with her family.
After graduating from Filer High School, she attended Albion Normal School getting her 2-year teaching degree. With two of her closest friends, Juanita Weiman and Charlotte Lattin Jauregui, she began her teaching career in Dietrich where she taught 7th and 8th graders, coached sports and supervised other school activities.
In 1945 she met and married Charles Orr, moving to South Dakota then Minnesota before returning to Idaho in 1951. They farmed in the Hunt Project and Dietrich area, working side by side in the fields and milking cows until they quit farming in 1965. In 1961 she returned to teaching, graduating with a BA in Education from ISU, while teaching 7th grade in Jerome, where she taught English and sometimes Math for the next 23 years.
She liked to garden, each year canning many quarts of fruits and vegetables, and cooking many meals for her family and friends. She loved camping and the peace of the mountains. With her husband, she was a founding member of the Southern Idaho Draft Horse and Mule Association. With their Shire horses, Frank and Jesse, and their covered wagons, they participated in a number of wagon trains, affording members of their family an unforgettable experience.
She was preceded in death by her husband of more than 60 years, her parents, her brothers Tom and John and sister Lucille, and her daughter-in-law Donna Hagan Orr.
She is survived by her daughter, Charleen (Philip) Renteria of Merced, Calif.; and sons, Charles "Chuck" Orr Jr. (Carol Metzler) of Buhl, David (Linda) Orr of Hazelton and Don (Terri) Orr of Hailey; 11 grandchildren, Shane, Rob (Corrie), Jeff (Tiffany), Kyle (Kristy), Roxanne, Alexandra, Kali, Brittany (Joe), David (Carinna), Craig and Robert; eleven great-grandchildren, Jenna, Chase, Dylan, Kade, Koy, Conner, Drake, Kristoffer, Logan, Andrez, and Diego; her sisters-in-law, Charlotte Ford Orr and Courtney Murphy O'Connor; and three generations of nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, March 6, 2010 at St Jerome’s Catholic Church, 216 2nd Ave. E in Jerome with burial to follow at the Hazelton Cemetery. A Rosary will be held on Friday, March 5 at 5:00 pm and visitation will follow from 6:00-8:00 pm at Rosenau Funeral Home, 2826 Addison Ave. E. in Twin Falls.
The family suggests memorials be given to the charity of the donor’s choice.
