She was born to Bert and Edna Silvers on December 11, 1913. She graduated from Kimberly High School in 1930, earning honors as Valedictorian of her class. She was a long time member of the Kimberly Ladies Pioneer Club. Myrtle Silvers married Bill Harmaning in the Kimberly Church of the Nazarene on December 16, 1934. They had two children, Helen Ann and William Kenneth. They farmed for many years outside Kimberly. During World War II they moved to Compton, CA for Bill to work in the McDonald-Douglas Aircraft Factory in Long Beach. Returning to Kimberly, they enjoyed raising their family on the farm. In 1960, she became the Office Manager at John Chris Motors in Twin Falls, where she worked until 1973. For the next few years she worked part time as a bookkeeper for Williams’ Grocery. Myrtle was the one remaining charter member of the Kimberly Church of the Nazarene. She served as Local and Zone Missionary President, Sunday School teacher, church board member, and many other roles to serve her church family and community. In the 1960s she coached the award winning Youth for Christ Bible Quiz team, who still reminisce how she loved them and fed them generously. She opened her home with unconditional love and hospitality to hundreds of people over the years.
