Obituary of Janet Joy Peterson

3-2-34 to 11-5-14 at home in Filer, Idaho surrounded by her family. Birth place: Julietta, Idaho at the family ranch. Father & Mother: Hinkle Cox and Marygrace Brackett Cox Attended elementary schools in Boise, Hunt & Eden, Idaho and then moved to Jerome, Idaho graduating from Jerome High School in 1952. She attended the University of Idaho for a brief time. She met Lester I. Peterson on a blind date in July and they were married December 7, 1957 in Twin Falls at the United Methodist Church. They made their home in Twin Falls for a few years then moved to Filer where she lived the remainder of her life. Janet went to work at Idaho First National Bank for a year and a half in their data center. She then started to work at Asgrow Seed Company for three years as a seed analyist before taking the position of a full time bookkeeper for 22 years. She was the first woman to receive the Upjohn Award in the Filer branch of Asgrow Seed. Janet was an avid reader, often reading many books several times; her knitted dishcloths were famous among all the family!! She enjoyed gardening & her flowers; camping and fishing with Lester, baking bread and always the famous cherry pies at Christmas! She always looked forward to football season and was a life long Green Bay Packers fan! Above all, Jan loved her family but her grandchildren were extra special to her and she rarely missed a recital/concert, game or play. She was “Grandma Jan” to many!! Jan was a member of the Filer United Methodist for many years teaching Sunday school in the past. She was also a den mother for the Filer Cub Scout Pack 73. Janet is survived by daughters: Lesli Jo Hinton of Marsing, Idaho and Lori Ann O’dell (Ron) of Filer, Idaho. Sons: Erik Lee Peterson (Kathy) of Filer, Idaho and Jon Kent Peterson of Meridian, Idaho. Grandchildren: Joshua Meadows (Samantha); Jordan Meadows (Cody VanDenBerg); Haley Peterson; Andrew Peterson, Taner Peterson & Alyssa O’dell. Great grandchildren: Raiden and Remi Meadows. Brother: William Cox of Phoenix, Arizona. Sisters: Camille Irwin of Phoenix, Arizona and Carolyn (Bob) Matsuoka of Twin Falls; sister-in-law: Glenda Crumbliss (Cotton) of Twin Falls, Idaho as well as several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; Mother and Father-in-law, her husband, Lester I. Peterson; a daughter, Zoe Lynne. Memorial service is scheduled for Saturday, November 15, 2014 @ 1:00 pm at Rosenau’s Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to the “900 Women Project” through St. Luke’s Magic Valley Foundation which provides funding for mammograms.
