Michael Ross Benson,78 passed away on April 2, 2014 in Twin Falls, Idaho. Michael is survived by his wife Joann and his four children, Debra, Gregg, Kenneth and Melinda. He has 11 grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Michael was born in Burley, Idaho on May 8, 1935 as the second of two children born to Franklin Ross Benson and Margaret Georgiana Buchanan. He is survived by his younger brother James and preceded in death by his older half-sister Bernice. He spent his childhood growing up in Pocatello, Idaho and graduated from Pocatello High School in 1954. He spoke fondly of his high school years and participated with several reunion committees. Michael loved baseball and was scouted by several major league baseball teams until he was diagnosed with polio at the age of 14. He never let the polio win and always participated in every possible activity with his children and family. He was involved with the Boy Scouts as a Scoutmaster and Little League as League Commissioner in St. George, Utah where he raised his family. Michael also loved the outdoors and fishing and spent many summer vacations on fishing trips and visiting Yellowstone and other national parks in southern Utah. Michael also loved to do genealogy for his family and was instrumental in helping hundreds of others with their family history. A memorial service will be held on Friday April, 11, 2014 at 11:00 am at the Harrison St. LDS Church, 667 Harrison St, in Twin Falls, Idaho. Inurnment will follow at 3 pm on Friday April 11, 2014 at the Pleasant View Cemetery in Burley, Idaho. Memorial contributions may be made in Michael’s honor to the Elks Rehab, 600 N Robbins Rd, Boise, ID 83702. Arrangements are under the direction of Rosenau Funeral Home Twin Falls, ID.
