Catherine Sullivan Shrum

Catherine Sullivan Shrum passed away Monday February 16, 2015 at Desert Rose Assisted Living.
Catherine was born January 27, 1917 in Pocatello Idaho. She was the daughter of Daniel F. Sullivan and Mary Elizabeth Lyons Sullivan. Catherine had two sisters Margaret and Helen. Catherine and her older sister Margaret would ride the train from Glenns Ferry where they resided, to Pocatello for grade school. The girls stayed in Pocatello with grandparents and would return to Glenns Ferry for the weekend. They attended St. Josephs Catholic School grades 1st through 3rd. She then started 4th grade in Glenns Ferry where she continued on and graduated from Glenns Ferry High School in 1935.
Catherine married William F. Shrum December 7, 1937. A son and daughter were born to this union. She was a member of Our Lady of Limerick Church in Glenns Ferry, St. Bridgets Alter Society, and Lady Firemans and Engineers. In 1973, William and Catherine moved to Nampa, Idaho where she became a member of the St. Pauls Catholic Church and was a hospital volunteer at Mercy Medical Center.
One of Catherine’s greatest joys was traveling, camping, and sports. She traveled to Hawaii, Austria, Ireland, Alaska, Mexico, and prior to that she had traveled the rest of the United States by passenger train. Catherine has also put many miles in to support her grandchildren and great grandchildren in all their various sporting events over the years.
Catherine is survived by her sister Helen Garrity of Evanston Illinois, son Daniel “Mose” (DiAnne) Shrum of Hailey, daughter Billie (K.C.) Bartholomew of Kimberly, grandchildren Jan Loper of Pocatello, Tracie (Tony) Schroeder of Twin Falls, Casey (Brandy) Bartholomew of Twin Falls, Steve (Amy) Bartholomew of Filer, Mary (Chad) Larson of Meridian, and Bill Shrum of Boise, many nieces and nephews, and 10 great grandchildren.
Catherine is preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister Margaret Campbell, and grandson-in-law Cam Loper.
The family would like to extend a special “Thank You” to the staff of Desert Rose Assisted Living and St. Luke’s Hospice.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to St. Edwards Catholic Church, Our Lady of Limerick in Glenns Ferry, or a charity of choice.
A Rosary will be held on Sunday, February 22, 2015 at Rosenau Funeral Home. Services will be held on Monday, February 23 at St Edward’s Catholic Church. Inurnment will take place at Glenns Ferry Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Rosenau Funeral Home.
