Obituary of JoAnn Barkley
Please share a memory of JoAnn to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
JoAnn Barkley passed away at sunset on March 10, 2015 in Twin Falls, Idaho at the age of 83. JoAnn was born on Christmas day 1931 in Iowa Park, TX to Joe Phillips and Jeanette Davis Phillips. She spent her childhood years in both Texas and California where she was doted on by her Aunts Ruby, “Tom”, Bess, Lydi and Bert. On December 27, 1949 she married the love of her life, Vernon Hewitt Barkley, in Yuma, AZ. Together they raised three children, Sandra Darlene, Michael Charles and Rebecca Jeanette. Throughout their 65 years of marriage JoAnn served God faithfully as a pastor’s wife for more than 35 years in California and Idaho. She particularly enjoyed the time she served as Ladies Auxiliary President for the United Pentecostal Church in the Western District of California. JoAnn played many roles in her life – wife, mother, daughter and friend but her favorite role was Nana. Nana’s house was synonymous with cinnamon rolls, ice cream bars, fried cornbread and magnificent one-armed back scratches. She cherished every moment spent with her grandkids and great-grandkids and their place in her life was only recently usurped by a Christmas gift they gave her five years ago-her “little girl dog”, Joy. JoAnn is survived by her husband, Vernon, of Twin Falls; children Sandra (Sherman) LaFleur of Kinder, LA, Rebecca (John) Picklesimer of Twin Falls; grandchildren Brian (Rexann) LaFleur of Twin Falls, Daryn (Amanda) Picklesimer of Bend, OR, Sondra (Seth) Collins of Twin Falls and her great-grandchildren Tyler, Brett, Gentry LaFleur and Mayci, Jack and Molly all of Twin Falls. She was preceded in death by her precious little boy Michael with whom she has now been joyously reunited. The funeral will held at Bethel Temple Apostolic Church in Twin Falls on Friday, March 13, 2015 at 10:00 AM. A separate burial will take [lace on Saturday, March 21, 2015 at Greenwood Memorial Park in San Diego, CA. Services are under the direction of Rosenau Funeral Home, Twin Falls.
