Obituary of Glen Courtney Palmer

Twin Falls- Glen Courtney Palmer, 62 of Twin Falls, Idaho (formerly of Anaheim, California), passed away Thursday, April 2, 2015, in Twin Falls, Idaho. He was born on January 4, 1953 in Amarillo, Texas, the son of Alva Clint and Leona Faye (Smith) Palmer. At the age of two, when it was discovered that he was Deaf, he began his education at the Jane Brooks School for the Deaf, Chickasha, Oklahoma. The next year, the family moved to Southern California Glen attended school in Santa Ana and the California School for the Deaf, Riverside. After high school, he worked for the Department of the Navy, Julian, California. He then trained as an auto mechanic and worked for Sears Aulomotive Center in Westminster, California. He then trained and worked for the US Postal Service for almost 30 years before retirement. Glen played basketball in his younger years and loved spending time at the beach and took his nieces and nephews boogie boarding there. He loved exreme sports and did skydiving several times at Lake Elsinore. He loved spending time outdoors, riding horses, learning how to shoot a rifle, snowmobiling, mowing the yard, and watching any kind of sporting event. Glen bowled in California and Idaho, and loved being a part of a team, especially the comradery and bowling on a weekly league. Some of his favorite past times were watching his favorite teams, Dallas Cowboys, LA Dodgers and LA Lakers play live. Glen loved looking at model trains, watching train videos and he took many trips by train in his life time. Glen will be remembered as being caring, sensitive, always had a smile on his face, did not complain and made friends everywhere he went. Glen’s carefree personality gave him the ability to interact with hearing and Deaf people alike. The cashiers at his favorite gas station knew him and his favorite treats and newspaper he bought. His friends who worked at Buffalo Wild Wings looked forward to him coming in all the time to watch games. He has touched so many lives; showing numerous hearing people that they can learn how to communicate with the Deaf community and encouraging ASL students to continue their studies. He told people everywhere to learn the manual alphabet and that they should take ASL classes. He was always willing to lend a helping hand, show friendship and support. Glen is survived by his siblings: Jim (Sheila) Palmer, Linda Garner, ZoeAnn Vazquez. Nieces and nephews: Stephen (Rebecca) Palmer, Dawn (Scott) Mayes, Shannon (Kent) Stowe, Tyson (Genevieve) Garner, Ailsa Castillo, Nick (Vanessa) Vazquez. Great nieces and nephews: Lindsey, Ashley, Casey, Samantha, A.C., Jacqueline, Justin, Miles, Julian, Jacob, Kayla and Francisco. Glen was preceded in death by: parents, Alva and Faye Palmer, brother-in-law, Francisco Vazquez, grand nephew, Jason Garner. Memorial service will be held on Thursday, April 23, 2015 at 2:00pm at Rosenau Funeral Home, Twin Falls, Idaho, interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park, a meal will follow the graveside service at Rosenau Funeral Home community room. A second memorial service is planned for May 9 in Cyprus, California to continue celebrating Glen’s life with those friends and family there. Arrangements are under the direction of Rosenau Funeral Home.
