Obituary of William Sherman Rogers

William 'Bill' Sherman Rogers Birth 4-20-1953 Death 8-15-2015(62) Bill was Born in Jerome Idaho to William Ira and Darlene Fern Beason Rogers. He was the first of seven children born to the Rogers family. They made their home in Hazelton, Idaho. Bill attended school at Valley School District. Following school he enlisted in the United States Army, serving with the 82nd Airborne as an Army Ranger, Fort Bragg North Carolina. He achieved the rank of Master Seargent. He trained other soldiers parachute technique and on one occasion, his chute failed and he rode to the ground on the inflated parachute of another soldier. He was preparing to serve his country in Vietnam, however the war drew to a close. Following the war, he continued to serve in hot spots around the world, logging 112 parachute jumps. He also served as an Honor Guard, traveling the United States helping to represent the United States Army at public events, funerals and parades, helping to heal the nation following the Vietnam conflict. While serving as an Honor Guard he he stood guard at the White House Door during the inauguration of President Richard M. Nixon. In 1973, he returned home to the Hazelton area. He worked at several jobs but eventually settled upon farming. He married Dolores Utt in 1974. They had two children, Krista Marie and Dustin William Rogers. They Lived “on the Hill” near Eden Idaho. Bill farmed with his then father in law, Charles Utt, raising dry beans, alfalfa hay and small grains. In the early 1990's he began raising sugar beets. During the winter months he began driving semi-truck for Circle A Construction, hauling sugar beets to the processing plants. Transystems became the next contract hauler for the Amalgamated Sugar Company. Bill drove for Transystems and continued to farm in the summer months. He was offered the Job of project manager for Transystems at the Paul, Idaho Sugar plant. He took the job with Transystems and ended his farming career. In 2013 he began working with Ag Express out of the Paul Terminal, driving hazmat tankers to Nevada, Washington, Colorado, Utah and Idaho. Bill's last day of work was 8 days before he lost his battle with lung cancer. In 1997, he married his best friend Cathy Bruderer. He became a stepfather to Cathy's girls, Lori and Mindy. They made their home in Hazelton Idaho. Bill became a grandfather to Krista's children, Caleb, Preston and Fallon and Dustins children, Maizah and Carson and Lori's children, Gage, Korbin and Harlee and Mindy's children, Riley and Jaxon. He is survived by his best friend, Cathy Rogers, his mother, Darlene, 4 brothers Bob(Carol), Ken(Cheri), Ron(Dianne), Scott(Heidi), 2 sisters, Fern(Jay) Bradford. Darla(Jay) Ridgway, his daughter Krista(Paul) Stoddard, his son Dustin(Alicia) Rogers, daughter Lori(Stephen) Sjostrom, Mindy(Brandon) Williamson, 14 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild. Bill is preceded in death by his Father and a niece.
