Melvin H. Dixon 86 of Twin Falls passed away September 13, 2015 at home. Melvin was born December 28, 1928 in Seminole, Oklahoma to Houston and Nona (Stubblefield) Dixon. Melvin joined the Marine Corp at an early age. And served two years in China during the end of WWII. Following his discharge he went to visit a brother in Mt. Vernon, Illinois where he met the love of his life, Joan Bain. They shared sixty-seven years together. Living in Mt. Vernon they had daughter Joanna and then moved to Oklahoma where son Melvin Richard was born. After a year in Oklahoma they moved back to Mt. Vernon and seven years later son James Leroy was born. When James was one month old the family moved to Hansen, Idaho looking for employment. It was in Hansen that Leroy Scantlin joined the family. Melvin was a hard worker; his first job in Idaho was shoveling coal. He worked as an irrigator setting siphon tubes for a short time before going to work for Norco. Melvin sold and serviced Medical and Welding supplies for Gem State Welding and Oxarc before opening Dixon Welding Supplies. During his career he helped to install medical gases in the new Magic Valley Hospital. Melvin was actively involved in the CSI welding programs as well as most of the Southern Idaho High Schools. He became an honorary member of FFA. Melvin loved hunting and fishing. He never missed the big elk hunt as the entire family can attest to. Lots of family memories are around the hunts or fishing trips. Melvin is active in the Loyal Order of Moose and has been a member of lodge number 612 for 45 years. Over the years he has held most of the positions in the lodge as well as receiving numerous awards. He is a pilgrim, a fellow and a legionnaire. Melvin was preceded in death by his son, Rick, granddaughter Jenna, his parents and siblings. He leaves behind his wife, Joan; daughter, Joanna (Gary) Craven; son, Jim (Jean) Dixon, Leroy (Karolyn) Scantlin, 18 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter. Viewing for Melvin will be held from 6-8pm at Rosenau Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held at 2pm, Friday, September 18th at Rosenau Funeral Home with burial to follow at Sunset Memorial Park.
