Obituary of Glenn Ellsworth Reed

Glenn Ellsworth Reed, 78, passed away February 12, 2014 at Bridgeview Estates in Twin Falls, Idaho. Services will be held Monday, February 17 at the Canyon Crest Event Center in Twin Falls at 1:00 p.m. After the service a celebration of his life will follow. Glenn was born June 30, 1935 in Buhl, Idaho to Lois and Myrl Reed. They moved to Salmon, Idaho where Myrl managed a creamery. They later moved back to Buhl where his father managed a service station. During this time his parents divorced. Mother, brother and Glenn lived on a farm in Buhl with his grandparents. They later moved to Twin Falls to attend Bickel Grade School. In 1946 his mother married and they moved to a farm near Eden, Idaho. He attended Russell Lane Grade school through 8th grade. He attended Eden High School until 1952. His senior year he attended Valley High School graduating in 1953. Glenn and June Schauerman met and dated throughout high school. They married October 9, 1953. He worked on the farm in the summer with his stepfather during this time and at the Barlow Bean Warehouse in Hazelton during the winter. In 1957 they moved to Pocatello where he attended ISU trade school taking welding and auto mechanics. He joined the reserves and went to Fort Ord, CA for 6 months along with 4 years active and attending summer camp. When he returned from Fort Ord, he finished school and worked at the Park Price Car Dealership as a mechanic. Later he worked as a service writer at Hill Brothers Buick and as a mechanic on a race car. In 1962 daughter Sandy was born and in 1964 son John was born. In 1967, the family moved back to Eden. He rented a farm which he later bought and lived on the past 44 years. Daughter Lori was born in 1970. Glenn was on the Valley School Board for 6 years, the Jerome ASCS Committee, Eden Fire Department Board and was a member of the Elks Snake River lodge. June and Glenn were members of the Jerome Country Club from 1988-2011. He enjoyed golfing throughout his retirement and started the Valley Rowdies golf tournament in 1985 and ran it for 25 years. He met many great friends through those tournaments and they have remained life-long friends. After retirement, they spent winters in Oceanside, CA. After 8 years they decided to travel the US, Mexico and take a cruise to Alaska. In 2011 they took a fall color bus tour through the Eastern states and Canada. He is survived by his wife June of 60 years, Eden, Brother Bill Reed, Twin Falls, and children Connie Jeter and Cathie Seeley, Medford, Sister Deanna Matheney, Boise, and son Kenny Yarbrough, Twin Falls, Daughter Sandra Griffiths (Gerald), Hazelton, Son John Reed (Dee Dee), Hazelton, Daughter Lori Davies (Duff), Boise, Grandchildren Mikel Griffiths (Lisa), Marisa Griffiths, Brogen Reed, Bryler Reed, Brinley Reed, Casey Davies and Bailey Davies. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made directly to the Mountain States Tumor Institute, Snake River Elks lodge #2807, the Valley Viking Scholarship Foundation or in care of Rosenau Funeral Home. The family would like to thank the staff at Mountain States Tumor Institute in Twin Falls and the many doctors and medical staff at St. Luke’s for their care of Glenn. Arrangements are under the direction of Rosenau Funeral Home.
