Les was my wife's uncle so I guess he is my uncle-in-law and we all know that "in-laws" are usually thought of as "out-laws". Les and Charlotte never, ever made me feel that way. From the very first time that I met them at the farm (aka "the Ponderosa") they made me feel as if I belonged to the family.
Les (I'm sorry but I can't say "Les" without saying "Les and Charlotte") and Charlotte were among the most sincere, loving and decent people I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. Anyone who was around them felt their genuine interest in what was going on in your life at the time. Les was also remarkable about his ability to carry on a conversation about such a wide variety of topics. When he asked your opinion about something he was genuinely interested in hearing what you had to say-- and he listened to your answer!
Virginia has an enormous warm spot in her heart for all of the wonderful times that she spent as a young girl growing up on the farm with Les & Charlotte. Totally loved, safe and cherished. I also can't possibly think about Les & Charlotte without smiling at the tales the Chilcote boys tell to this day about their adventures in the back of a pick-up camper with the Jones clan. Wonderful happy memories. Thank you Les (and Charlotte).
Les Jones was a wonderful, remarkable man. Virginia and I would consider it the highest compliment if any of our nieces or nephews thought of us one-half as fondly as we think of Uncle Les and Aunt Charlotte.
Rest in Peace, our dear friend.
