Obituary of Shirley N. Cardwell
Please share a memory of Shirley to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Shirley Nadine Cardwell of Twin Falls passed away early Friday morning October 13, 2017, from natural causes.
Shirley was born July 18, 1926, in Rigby, Idaho, the second child of Charles Edward Ford and Jane ElReita Kinghorn Ford.
She married Robert Leazer, and together they had two children, Robert and Janet. After they divorced she married Darrell LaMarr Cardwell, who was her lifelong companion and cherished husband. They had four more children, Sheri, Diane, Sheila, and Elaine and raised all six of them in Twin Falls, Idaho.
Shirley was foremost a mother and homemaker, although she did work outside the home for several years as a waitress. Her favorite activities always included being with her husband and family. They camped and fished, played cards and visited with family, taxied kids and watched years of baseball games. With Darrell she joined a bowling league, where she served as a very dedicated secretary for years. In her quiet time, she crocheted beautiful doilies, a tablecloth, a bedspread, and numerous afghans. She also worked her way through countless crosswords and solved mind-bending logic puzzles. She was bright and pleasant and known for her ready smile.
Shirley is survived by her five daughters, Jan Leazer, Sheri Hill, Diane Davenport, Sheila (Mike) McClure, and Elaine Kollecker; her brothers Don and Ray (Sandy) Ford; her sisters Reita Rambo, Deoine (Robert) Moore, and Linda (Bill) Lyda; and her sister-in-law Dolores Brehm; and an impressive posterity of grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Darrell Cardwell, her son Robert Leazer, her parents Charles and ElReita Ford, two brothers Nolan and Leon Ford, two sisters Raeola Cooke and Mary Ellen Rasmussen, and four great grandchildren.
The funeral is scheduled for Saturday, October 21, at 10:00 a.m. at the LDS Chapel at 824 Caswell Ave. W in Twin Falls, Idaho. Friends may visit with the family at the church one hour prior to the funeral. Burial will be in the Sunset Memorial Park in Twin Falls.
