Obituary of Arnold Scott Bridge

ARNOLD SCOTT BRIDGE Arnold Scott Bridge, of Twin Falls, Idaho, died on November 30, 2017 at the age of 97. Arnold was born on September 22, 1920 to Inez and Leonard Bridge. He was raised in Dietrich and graduated from Dietrich High School in 1938. After graduation, Arnold was set to attend Idaho State University but a mishap with his horse, and the resultant broken collarbone, changed the course of his direction instead to Albion Normal where he attended for two semesters. Following his time at Albion, Arnold returned to Dietrich for a short time and then left Idaho for a job at Lockheed Aircraft Company in California. Arnold worked for Lockheed for three years, working on the P-38 fighter aircraft. While living in Los Angeles, Arnold met and married Dorothy Doyle and became a father to her two young children, Beverly and Richard. The newly formed family ultimately left California and headed back to Idaho at which time Arnold joined the United States Army. Arnold honorably served his country during World War II. After being honorably discharged, Arnold returned to Dietrich to begin his lifetime commitment to farming. He farmed land for various people and was eventually able to purchase his own land where he farmed, built a home, and raised his family. During his farming years, Arnold also drove milk truck, often recalling driving his route during the winter of 1948-49, as well as working on the railroad. Arnold obtained a job with the Big Wood Canal Company, first as a seasonal employee and eventually as full-time employee, and retired from the Canal Company in 1986 after forty years of employment. Arnold's wife, Dorothy, died in 1967 after a long illness. In October of 1969, Arnold married Marvel Childs of Buhl and their daughter, Angela, was born the following year. Arnold also became a stepdad to Marvel's six sons: Allen, Dan, Mike, Jim, Leslie, and Mark Childs. Arnold and Marvel farmed in Dietrich until 1978 when they left farming behind and moved to Shoshone. Marvel died in 1981 after a short illness. Arnold remained in Shoshone, raising his daughter and continuing to work for the Canal Company until his retirement. In 1989, Arnold married Marge Rudeen of Twin Falls and they made their home in Twin Falls. He became a stepdad to Marge's children, Sharon Grissom and Rick West. Arnold and Marge enjoyed a full and active retirement, spending time square dancing with Buttons & Bows, traveling south to Arizona each winter as well as traveling to the Caribbean, Alaska, Panama Canal, Australia, New Zealand, and into Russia. After a number of years, Arnold and Marge decided they were ready for a retirement closer to home so they began to cut back on their travels and remained close to Twin Falls. Marge died in 2012. Following the loss of his beloved dance partner and travel companion, Marge, Arnold remained in their home for a time but soon decided he was ready for a change. He made his move to Bridgeview Estates where he resided for four years and then moved to Canyons Retirement this past summer where he resided at the time of his death. He cherished his time at Bridgeview and Canyons and our family is deeply grateful for the love and compassion shown to him at both places. We would also like to thank our friends with Comfort Keepers and Heritage Home Health, as well as the staff at St. Luke's Magic Valley who took such great care of Arnold. Thank you. Arnold is survived by his daughter, Angie Bridge; his stepdaughter, Sharon (Gary) Grissom; his stepsons, Allen Childs; Dan (Judy) Childs; Mike Childs; Jim (Shawna) Childs; and Rick West; his sister, Marilyn James; and his son-in-law, John Robirts. He is preceded in death by his loves: Dorothy, Marvel, and Marge; his daughter, Beverly; his son, Richard; his stepsons, Leslie and Mark; his brother, Max; his sister, Aldeen; and his brother-in-law, Charles James. Services will be held on Saturday, December 16, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. at the Twin Falls Reformed Church in Twin Falls with Pastor Brian Vriesman officiating. Burial will follow at the Lincoln County Cemetery in Shoshone. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Rosenau Funeral Home.
