Obituary of George Marion Cunningham

George M. Cunningham went to be with his Lord and Savior after passing away peacefully at his home at the age of 93 on May 17th, 2018. George was born on January 22, 1925 in Nevada, Missouri to his parents Clifford and Ruth Cunningham. The family moved to California where his brother Bill was born in 1931. After graduating high school, George entered the United States Army Air Force and proudly served his country for three years. He then attended Denison University in Granville, Ohio where he graduated with a Bachelor's degree in liberal arts in 1951. In 1953 he was employed by Owens Corning Fiberglass Corporation in Portland, Oregon as a salesman. He married Nadine Crofts Stewart on September 9, 1956. Their daughter, Jenny Lynn, was born on September 13, 1957. George earned many awards in sales as a regional product manager and his rapid advancements as a top salesman took the family to southern California, then eventually Kansas. In 1970 they moved to Twin Falls, Idaho where George embarked on his own business venture as a salesman for Harvestore silos and various irrigation systems in the AG community. A man of many talents, George also transitioned into sales with Ames Irrigation, obtained a real estate license, and later acquired a machinist position with the Tupperware Corporation. George and Nadine divorced in 1978. In 1981 he married Laurel Anderson. Laurel has 5 children, Mark Evans, Athena Evans (Campbell), Brian Anderson, Bruce Anderson, and Axel Anderson. After retiring, George set out to fulfill his lifelong dream of sailing. Upon acquiring a sailboat with his brother Bill the grand journey began. From that point he and his family enjoyed frequent sailing excursions in waters across the West. After a summer-long sailing trip around Alaska, Laurel announced that if they were going to do this kind of sailing they were going to need a bigger boat. George agreed, eventually purchasing a sea-fairing vessel several years later. During the offseason George and Laurel built a successful storage unit business, Pines Storage. However, George's love for travel was never quenched. He and Laurel were privileged to travel to many amazing places across the globe, acquiring incredible lifelong memories together. Their last sailing adventure was to the Gulf Islands in Canada when George was 85. George deeply loved his family, his grandkids and his nieces and nephews. He will be greatly missed by many.
