Obituary of Joyce P Guttery

A. Joyce Pierce Guttery, of Carson City, Nevada and formerly of Twin Falls, Idaho died Friday July 6, 2018 at home. She was 97. Joyce was born April 7, 1921, to Horace A. and Nellie Greenwood Pierce on the family farm along Pole Line Road in Twin Falls. Joyce was an identical twin to sister, A. Jean Pierce Clarkson and she had three older brothers Luther, Woodrow (Woody) and Horace E. Joyce was in the Beta Sigma chapter of the National Honor Society, a Spanish Club Member and vice president of the J.O.Y. club of the young girl reserve. Joyce excelled in music, the Pierce twins would sing duets and they were featured locally on the radio. Joyce graduated from Twin Falls High School in 1939 and attended the University of Idaho, where she earned a degree in music education in 1941. On June 27, 1942 Joyce married Lewis C. Guttery of Twin Falls, Idaho. She followed her husband during World War II working in banking and accounting at local banks, and the Federal Reserve Bank. Later after having her children she worked as a bookkeeper for Circle K in Boise, Idaho and in accounts receivable for the Carson City Nugget until she retired at the age of 79. She was preceded in death by her husband. She was a lifelong member of many organizations: The Social Order of the Beauceant, Eastern Star (50+ years) and PEO Sisterhood (57 years). Joyce so enjoyed her PEO sisters. Joyce was an excellent seamstress making her children's clothing. Survivors include daughters Deborah Jean Juve of Florence, Oregon, (Richard) and Sandra Joyce Gregory of Carson City, Nevada, (Mark), one grandson and one step grandson. Funeral services will be held at 3:30PM Saturday July 14, 2018 at Rosenau Funeral Home & Crematory in Twin Falls, Idaho with the committal service to follow at Sunset Memorial Park. The family suggests memorial contributions may be made to the PEO Sisterhood Chapter N, Carson City, Nevada to support scholarships for Cottey College or Shriners Hospital for Crippled Children, in care of Kerak Temple, 4935 Energy Way, Reno, NV 89502.
