Obituary of Dorothy A Reed

Dorothy M. Reed passed away on Friday September 27, 2013 at Wynwood assisted Living Center. Dorothy was born on March 16, 1920 in Bedford, Iowa to David and Ethel Kingsley. She attended school in Bedford, and graduated from Northwest Missouri Teachers College. During this time, she taught at several one room schools. In 1945, Dorothy moved west to teach at Pocatello High School where she taught English and served as Dean of Women. On June 12, 1949 she married Ernest N. Reed, Jr. in Bedford, Iowa. Shortly after their marriage, they moved to Moscow, Idaho where Ernest finished college and Dorothy worked at the J.C. Penny store. After Ernest’s graduation they moved to Kansas City, Kansas. In 1952 they returned to Hazelton, Idaho and started a small farming operation which they continued for the next fifty-five years. Dorothy resumed her teaching profession in the Valley School District and the Cassia County School District. She was a member of the Baptist Church in Bedford, Iowa, and was active in the Valley Presbyterian Church in Hazelton, Idaho. She was also a member of the Friendship Club for more than fifty years. Dorothy enjoyed reading, needle working, gardening and growing flowers. In her later years she looked forward to trips to Jackpot where she liked to collect quarters for her state coin collection. She was preceded in death by her parents; sister Doris; brother in-law Jim Corbett and brother in-law Cecil Morrison. She is survived by her husband of sixty four years Ernest N. Reed Jr.,brother in-law Dahl (Miriam) Reed of Hazelton; sister in-law Della Corbett of Nampa; nieces Kim Anderson of Meridian, Marilyn Sharp of Bedford, Iowa; Barbara Long of Clarinda, Iowa; nephews Kent Corbett of Meridian, Ron Morrison of Orifino, Wayne Morrison of Creston, Iowa and Ernie Morrison of Creston, Iowa. The family would like to extend their appreciation to the staff at Wynwood for their care and for making Dorothy’s last three years as enjoyable as possible. The family would also like to thank Dr. Wayne Blauer of Burley for his compassionate care of Dorothy over the years. A graveside service will be held on Monday September 30, 2013 at 2:00 pm at the Hazelton Cemetery with Bob Unger officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Rosenau Funeral Home.
