Diane and family,
I see that Jack has passed and gone to heaven. I know that his statement, I've had a wonderful life, was because he made life so wonderful for so many. His kindness and support for the faculty and student body at Robert Stuart was renowned. It is one of his great legacies. Also, because of him and his view of education, Robert Stuart was the school where learning was a joy.
He was a great man, you are a great woman and together you were perfect.
Love you,
Mary Ferrell Schmidt

Peav, Wattsie, and Bob.................
I couldn't have asked for a better way to kick off my educational career than with "The Old Master" back in the fall of 79'. I walked into Jack's office the first week of June for my first and only interview. He sat me down and said, "Well, I've been through your file, and I figure you wouldn't be here if you didn't want this job...so, do you like to golf, fish, or hunt?" I'm not kidding! We talked for close to an hour and never once discussed philosophy of education, strategies of teaching, or the latest Madeline Hunter lesson plans. In the end Jack said, "Well, let me show you where your room is, and then you'll need to go back downtown!" And that was it! I couldn't sign fast enough ($9500)! How could you not want to work for a man like that? The only time I ever saw him really mad was when a food fight broke out in the cafeteria. The place was a total mess! Jack stormed in and slammed the doors behind him saying, "NOBODY LEAVES UNTIL THIS PLACE IS SPIC AND SPAN!" And guess what? Nobody left: wonderful memories at "Stewey" with Jack and the staff. I don't regret it for one minute! I'll never forget when Jack took me down to "Reds" to buy my first .22 pistol, and then took me out plinking several times. I still shoot that gun today. Jack was an amazing man. He will be sorely missed by me and so many. :-)

Diane and Family,
I was deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Mr. Watts.
Jack, "the old master," had a profound positive influence on my life. He interviewed me to come to Stuart, when he drove out to O Leary as I was mowing the front on the district mower in the summer of 1985. He asked me if I would like to teach and coach. I told him I would. I asked him what I would be teaching."Social Studies, drafting and shop. "I knew zero about shop or drafting and told him that. He told me Norm, the shop teacher, would help me. My shop class was a collection of all the delinquents in the school. That might have been a deal he and Norm worked out. He probably thought if I could survive this, I could survive anything. While at Stuart, I had an opportunity to coach: track, football, basketball and volleyball. While in education Jack had the opportunity influence many lives. I'm sure my story, is one of many of educators who he helped in his great career.
Jack, I'm sad you are gone, but am so thankful you were there to start me on my 35 year career of teaching and coaching.

I am so sorry to hear about Jack passing away. He was a great man. He was my principal at Robert Stuart when I went to school there. When working at the Twin Falls Parks & Recreation Department, I called upon him many times for gym scheduling, field usage, and he was the only principal in the early 80's that allow the department to install permanent soccer goals at the school, they are still there.
He will be missed.
My condolences,
Dennis Bowyer

I feel so very blessed to have met Jack and cared for him. My day feels empty not being able to visit him and hold his hand. Jack and his family made a huge impact in my life. Rest well Mr Watts.

Diane and Family,
I am so sorry for your loss and to hear of the passing of Uncle Jack. Time and distance prevented us from spending as much time as we would have liked in recent years. I do have fond memories of spending time with him when I was younger and remember him as a kind and caring gentleman. I know he truly enjoyed his life in Idaho and will be sincerely missed by those closest to him. He put his heart fully into everything he was involved in. God bless your family

My thoughts are with the family and hope that their memories of Mr. Watts bring them peace. Jack was my principal at Lincoln elementary school and Robert Stuart junior high and I was a friend and classmate of his daughter Mary Lou. Mr. Watts was an imposing figure and luckily I was never called into his office. RIP Mr. Watts.D3d7
