Obituary of Ruth M Denton

Please share a memory of Ruth to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Cherished by her family, Ruth M. DeWald Denton passed away peacefully in her sleep on March 10, 2019 and joined her beloved husband, George Junior Denton, in Heaven.  Ruth was born on November 26, 1924 to Eva Maier DeWald and Jacob DeWald at their home in Hansen, Idaho.  Nov. 23,  1927 she was baptized in Hansen, Idaho.   Her family moved to Twin Falls where she attended a German speaking church two blocks from the City Park.

Ruth met her husband George, at a dance in Twin Falls and was married February 11, 1945.  After George’s tour in the Navy in San Diego, CA, they returned to Idaho, where they farmed and raised their family, mostly in the Filer and Twin Falls areas.  Their children are: Carolyn (Joe) Sturgell of Seattle, Russell (Marilyn Mosman/Volle) Denton of Twin Falls, Donna (Dennis) Lutz of Filer, Peggy (Mark) Schroeder of Wilder and Dan (Sonya Lutz) Denton of Twin Falls.  Ruth’s greatest joy and blessing was her children.  She had numerous grandchildren, many great and even great-great grandchildren.

With five children at home, Ruth was a very busy homemaker.  She was an excellent seamstress who even fashioned wedding dresses for her daughters.  She had a large garden and canned much of the produce and berries she grew, and she helped George on the farm.  As her children got older, she worked outside the home as a school bus driver and was a caregiver for the elderly.  She belonged to several bowling leagues, the Elmwood Social Club, and several Square Dance Clubs.  She supported her children in their 4-H pursuits and school athletics, band, and cheerleading activities.  She was an excellent fisherwoman and liked fishing with her husband and her sister.  She enjoyed crafting and putting puzzles together, which she continued to do at Brookdale Senior Living after moving there with George in June, 2011.

Both Ruth and George loved to dance and they taught square dancing and line dancing to friends and family alike.  For their 50th Wedding Anniversary they had a square dance party in Overton, Nevada, where they were ‘Snow Birds’ for several winters.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, by her husband George in 2012, one son, and all her brothers and sisters and one grandchild and two great great grandchildren.  Ruth has one surviving sister-in-law, Carole McCall DeWald.
