Obituary of Barbara M. Damon
Please share a memory of Barbara to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Barbara M. Damon, 84, of Twin Falls took her last breath on Earth and her first breath in Heaven on Saturday, August 24, 2013 after a courageous battle with cancer for 24 years. Barbara was born December 15, 1928 in Twin Falls, Idaho to Clyde and Ira Lancaster of Filer, Idaho where she grew up, attended school and met her lifelong love and husband, Duane Damon. Barbara and Duane were married on January 21, 1949 and started their family in Filer. Barbara worked in the banking industry for 18 years and then stayed home to be a support and parts runner for Duane as he built up his custom farming business after a move to Rupert, Idaho. They retired in 1998 and made plans to move back to Filer shortly before Duane was taken from her after almost 50 years of marriage. Barbara attended Northwest Nazarene College and was a member of the Church of the Nazarene from childhood until her passing. She spent many years working in the church and serving the Lord. If the doors were open, she and the family were there. Her faith and family meant everything to her, and it showed in everything she did. She built her life around her family by serving the Lord and making memories. She loved to say, "Remember, you're making memories," and then proceeded to do whatever it took to make memories for her family, her friends and those that she surrounded herself with. She was a giver of her time, money, and her love. She loved to spend time with her family, her "cronies," ("friends from yesteryears") by going to lunch and whatever activity or program came up that they could get together with and enjoy each others company. She especially enjoyed her time with her dear friend Leo Stokesberry, going for rides in his old cars, fine dining at McDonald's, and playing BINGO and Rummikub. She loved basketball, and they had reserved seats for CSI right behind the players. She didn't miss a game if it was at all possible. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the light of her life. She did so many special things with each one of them, and they couldn't wait to spend time with her. "Grams" was always coming up with things she thought they would love: personal dates, tea parties, and dollar-store shopping. Her energy was never-ending. She was text savvy, computer savvy and would drive anywhere--usually to spend time with someone she loved. She went to every game and activity she could (for grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews) if it was physically possible. There wasn't anything that Barbara wouldn't do that wasn't motivated by love and the thought that she was helping in some way to make life better for someone else. She touched so many people around her of all ages simply by loving unconditionally, and that was evidenced in the many visitors she had (even up to the last day) that would drive from miles away to see her and then turn around and drive home. She was a beloved mother, Grams, and friend. She has left a great legacy and an example to follow. Barbara is survived by her children, Jan (Ron) Silvers, Juli (Larry) Hall, Dan (Lynda) Damon; grandchildren, Jodi (Casey) Miller, Danielle (David) Richert, Jarrett (Robbin) Hall, Kira (Kirk) Rosenau, Rhandie (Dave) Mohr, Ethan Damon, Logan Damon, Drew (Heather) Jones, Whitney Jones, and many great grandchildren. Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, Duane; her parents; four brothers, Duane, Paul, Thane, and Ed Lancaster; and two great-grandsons, Jaxson and Jarrett Jones. A special thank you goes out to the staffs at MSTI and Bridgeview Rehab Center for their love and compassion during her battle with cancer. A visitation for family and friends will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, August 27, at Rosenau Funeral Home & Crematory in Twin Falls. A funeral will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 28, at the Twin Falls Church of the Nazarene. Family and friends are encouraged to share memories at www.rosenaufuneralhome.com
