Obituary of Nina J. Fisher

Nina Julia Smith Fisher Twin Falls- Nina Fisher, 84, a resident of Twin Falls passed away Friday, June 21, 2013. Nina was born on August 07, 1928 in Windfield, Kansas to Carrie Emmaline Nickelson and Woodson Smith. Nina moved to Tulley Lake, CA with her older sister Daisy shortly after her mother passed away. It was here that she met the love of her life, Jim Fisher, who was working as a Fish and Game Conservation Officer at the time. They married in October of 1948 and spent the next 61 years in each other’s arms. They eventually moved to Magic Valley, ID where together they raised their four children who all inherited her feisty attitude and spark for life. Nina took great pride in not only her children, but any and all friends that accompanied them. She always made everyone feel at home, and no one was ever able to refuse her generous hospitality. Nina was an amazing cook who always had a home cooked meal waiting for anyone who was hungry. She was most famous for her family meals where all were welcome. Once Jim retired, he and Nina enjoyed working as camp hosts all over Idaho for many years. They often had their grandchildren with them during the summers and she would show them off to all the campers. Nina was an avid volunteer all over Magic Valley and helped with cub scouts, 4-H, and where ever she could in the schools. Kids always remembered seeing her in the halls at school as she brought treats and helped with room parties. She was highly influential on countless children all over the area as she positively affected more lives than she ever knew. Nina was known for her sharp personality and clever sense of humor. Even in her later years when her memory was beginning to fade, she could still come up with the wittiest comments to make you laugh. She loved to talk about her children and grandchildren and often reminded anyone who came to visit that “her boys” had better be behaving themselves if they didn’t want grandma to get after them. What Nina lacked in height, she more than made up for in character. When asked to give her best marriage advice at one point, Nina perfectly summed up her personality in one sentence when she advised that the key to a long and happy marriage is to “always do what you’re told, and keep your mouth shut!” Nina is preceded in death by both parents, husband Jim Fisher, son Wesley “Vic” Fisher, and great-grandson Aidan. Nina is survived by three children Carrie Watson of Indianapolis, IN, Robert (Debbie) Fisher of Twin Falls, ID, and Richard Fisher of Hailey, ID; Six grandchildren Sharea Brehm of IN, Chana Watson of IN, Jason Fisher of Twin Falls, Westin (Sadie) Fisher of Twin Falls, Heather Fisher of Boise, ID, and Nicole Fisher of Hailey, ID; and four great-grandchildren; Nadia, Malia, Kiena, and Parker. The Fisher family would like to thank Ashley Manor of Kimberly and Hospice Visions for their wonderful care of Nina when she needed it most. A service will be held to honor Nina on Wednesday, June 26, 2013 at Sunset Memorial Park at 3:00pm.
