Rich was one of the first SCS folks I met and he helped me establish a career for which I am most grateful. He was also my mentor, officially and unofficially, at work and on the golf course and.... He was a mentor to a lot of us pups and I think his success rate was remarkable. How can you thank a man who gave us all so much? I only had two issues with Rich. He had planted trees on the golf course where I seemed to hit my ball. He was sitting in the golf cart and laughed. And he would not become an Atlanta Braves fan, but given his name I had to forgive him and we were still friends. My condolences to the family.

Rich, Leo, and I (Doug Howard) went to Ilwaco, Wa, fishing with Pacific Charters. We caught a bunch of fish and it has been one of the things that has connected us over the years. Pacific Charters is still there and I still go fishing there and when I saw Rich these last few years we would always talk about it.
Rich had a picture on his wall where he was fishing for halibut in Alaska. I saw it and wanted to go too, so he gave me the outfitters information and I went the following year. Fishing was something we could always talk about when we got together.
Rich always talked about his family when the two of us got together. There were such an important part of his life.

I had the privilege of sharing this life with Rich Yankey. Rich hired me to work for him and the Soil Conservation Service January 1981, working until 1995 in Twin Falls, Monday thru Friday 8:00 am to 5:00 pm and then some! Our office location was Addison Ave. was the old maternity ward and just happened to be the building I was born in 1949...Amazing Grace!
I remember many activities we had a mutual interest in, such as white water rafting, camping, snow skiing, duck hunting, flat water canoeing in a snow storm (biggest snow flakes I have ever seen), just to name a few.
Rich was a friend of mine and I will miss spending time with him, but I most certainly did not like seeing him struggle.
Several important comments I need to make: Rich and I are believers in Jesus. In our Bible studies with Lynn Yankey and Ernie McCollum we wanted to know how a person could be absolutely certain that we would spend Eternity with God in heaven.
The Bible verses, John 3:16-17, declares that God so loved the world He created that He gave His one and only Son, Jesus, that whosoever believes in Him would not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved. Read the book of Romans to find out where Rich is now!
People of faith are taking God at His word and trusting in Him to do what He says He will do according to His will for us.
Rich, I look forward to my reunion with you in Biblical heaven......Rejoice in the Lord and again I say Rejoice, Amen

We lost a good one! Rich hired me into Government Service, kept me out of jail (usually), showed me where the deer and arrowheads were located, and helped keep my family intact. All while being a great boss and an even greater friend. There will never be another one like him. Rich went through a rough go the last few years, but that never stopped him from from flashing his goofy grin and being more concerned about others more than himself. Damn, I'm going to miss him. My thoughts and prayers are with the family and the many friends that Rich has made an impact on.

Our condolences to the all the Yankey families, I missed out on knowing Rich because we moved out of Idaho in 1949, and so the only time we met after that was during infrequent trips to Idaho over the last 70 years. After reading his obituary and other comments I can see that he had a very adventurous life, and a rich and fruitful life. He was a blessing to all who came into his life. He leaves many memories to his family and friends, he will be remembered for a long time.
Blessing to all

Dear Lyndi, Justin, Jared, Dane & Family,
Sending my condolences to all of you on the passing of your Father and Step-Father. Rich was a cherished friend to my family as I was growing up and beyond. I remember fun deer and elk hunting trips with him over the years. More than one trip ended in a hike out in the dark, snow falling and cold, but there was your Dad, sporting that trademark smile as my Dad and him exchanged witty comments and laughter. It was always a good time!! I was also so thankful that your Dad enjoyed getting up long before dawn to meet up with my Dad to go duck hunting beacause when Rich was available to be a hunting partner my teenage self could get some extra hours of sleep in my bed instead of the duck blind. As you stated in the obituary, Rich always had a hunting dog and he definitely utilized those dogs to their full potential during all those duck trips and other bird hunting excursions over the years. Your Dad and I had an ongoing joke pertaining to his color blindness -When I was maybe 9ish (young enough to only interpret his color blindness literally) we were walking in a parking lot to his red pick-up and I got up the courage to ask him "so, since your pick-up is red and you can't see red, do you just go through the parking lot looking for an empty spot and then feel for your pick-up?" As you can imagine - your Dad got a real kick out of that! After he stopped laughing long enough to explain to me that he could see red it just looked different to him than it did to me, we had lifelong joke between us. Ironically, my husband is also colorblind, so I am reminded of that joke and your Dad often. I will always remember the amazing job your Dad and Gale Roberts did when they teamed up to MC my Dads retirement party. They wrote several jokes saying your might be a redneck if . . . .but you might be Lew Pence if . . . the jokes were hysterical and poked fun at what my Dad likes to call being "conservative". It was the best! I have a lot of other great memories of Rich, but most importantly, I just want you all to know that he touched the lives of so many people throughout his life and we are all better for having known him. He will be missed, but never forgotten . . . Sending my love -
Kim Pence Kaul and Family

I loved working for Rich in the SCS out of the Buhl office in 1977-78 then as the Project Mgr. on the Rock Creek water quality project (1980-81) before moving into the private sector. Although I moved frequently, we remained friends and we shared many breakfasts together. He was a great example of calm. One of my favorite memories was canoeing Salmon Falls creek on a windy early spring day that we had to take shelter and wait for the winds to calm down.
My condolences to the family.

Dear Yankeys,
Thinking about all of you and Rich whose loss has been so hard for so long as he lost his health. Wish I could have known him better as an adult, but I certainly have many fond memories of our times together as kids on the farms and at grandma Duspiva's. May you all find meaning and peace in your many memories of those good times with Rich. Love--John
