Obituary of Shey Patterson

Please share a memory of Shey to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Shey was born August 21, 1934 to A.F. and Hazel Patterson in Dayton, Ohio and went to be with Jesus on May 29, 2013 surrounded by his loving family. Raised on as a small farm in Eaton, Ohio along with his brother, Armond(Bud) Patterson. He attended grade school in Ohio until 1948 when the family moved to New Mexico and started a diary business. He graduated from Artesia High School in 1952 and continued working in the family business. In 1965 the family moved to Jerome, Idaho and started the Mon Ropsa Black Angus business in which they raised and sold premium stock all over the United States where Shey recounted some perilous trips hauling cattle in various parts of the states. While working on the ranch he had a dramatic tractor accident which was to impact the rest of his life. During surgery it was found he had Polycystic Kidney disease. After months in recovery, he decided he would go back to school and get a degree in ministry at Northwest Christian College in Eugene, Oregon. Graduating with honors in 1988, his life took another turn and he decided to go into the real estate business going to work for Coldwell Banker Western Realty in December 1988. His true ministry was in his music which he gladly shared with many people, singing at retirement centers, churches, weddings and funerals. He had a true love for people and loved sharing his gift. He married Donna Bach on November 3, 1990 and inherited a large adopted family and that started a new chapter in his life. They loved playing golf and played at many courses throughout the United States. Traveling the world and visiting many exotic places. In 1996 his life once again took another turn and was told the PKD disease had taken a toll and he was going to have to have a kidney transplant in order to live a “normal” life so went to the University of Utah transplant center where his wife was tested and gave him her kidney and they had another 14 years together traveling and working together. One of his favorite places was Egypt and the Holy Land walking where Jesus walked. During one of our trips to Rome, he visited a Lamborghini dealer and fortunately they would not let him take a test drive and gave him a poster to take home instead. He loved cars and was a real car buff visiting many car shows and museums throughout the world. In 2010 his kidney once again failed and he had to choose to go to dialysis 3 times a week. After a year of trying to work and complete the treatment, he retired from the real estate business and became a full time Grandpa to Charity and Sammi. He is survived by loving wife, his brother, Bud Patterson, son, A.F. Patterson and step daughter, Jan Orth and his adopted children, Paul and Cindy, Mark and Sandra, Melinda, Michelle and Pete and Derek and Celene and his special “girls” Charity and Sammi and many grandchildren and great grandchildren who were all dear to him as he valued his family above all. He was preceded in death by his parents and son-in-law. We want to thank Dr. Ficklin, Dr. Narasimhan and all the doctors, nurses and staff at St. Luke’s for the loving care during the last 3 years. Also a special thanks to the wonderful and caring people at Davita Dialysis Center, big thanks to the staff at Bridgeview Estates and Twin Falls Care center for all the care he received there. In lieu of flowers a contribution can be made in Shey’s name to the Polycystic Kidney Disease Foundation at 8330 Ward Parkway, Suite 510, Kansas City, Mo 64114-2027 or a charity of your choice.
