Around 2003, in a suburb northwest of Dallas, I was standing in the viewing window at the top of an ice rink built as a practice facility for the STARS hockey team. I was watching my oldest play high school hockey for Keller ISD. The gentleman standing next to me also had a son playing for the Keller team. We chatted. Don't ask me how, but during our small talk, we discovered we both had Mr. Barrus as our high school Biology teacher!! What are the chances of that?!!! The main thing we reminisced about was how Mr. Barrus taught us Genetics by having us raise 2-3 generations of Drosophila melanogaster - fruit flies - and predict the % of offspring born with recessive & dominant traits. I think Mr. Barrus is the reason I studied biology, botany, & ecology along with other sciences in college & eventually become a teacher. My interest in the sciences was passed on - - and my oldest son is now a doctor. I was saddened to learn Mr. Barrus had left this world. I hope his family realizes how many lives he touched & how many lives he continues to touch through the work of his students and the work of his student's children. He is sending positive ripples out through the universe.

Mr. Barrus was one of my favorite high school teachers. His enthusiasm, knowledge of Biology, and caring personality made him a popular teacher. He became a special friend while attending the 8th Ward, during my adult years in Twin Falls.
I appreciate his valiant testimony and service in our stake, as a bishop and stake Patriarch. Bro. Barrus' awesome vocal talents brought joy, faith, and peace to countless people, blessed by his amazing gifts.
Dear Sandra and family, you will remain in my thoughts and prayers, as you miss his physical presence, but are comforted by the Holy Ghost and your sweetheart's special messages of love and peace.

Milton Barrus was a generous and inspirational man. I was a student of his for both biology and advanced biology, and that experience led me to study both the life sciences and education in college. In 1980, he was kind enough to allow me to student teach under his guidance, and I then went on to teach biology myself for 35 years.
I think of him often, and the great lessons he taught me. My condolences are with his family.
