Milton Emery Barrus, 83, of Twin Falls, died Friday evening, May 14, 2021, at his home after fighting a four-year battle with cancer. He was born on December 1, 1937, in Burley, to Emery T. and May C. Barrus. He graduated from Bonneville High School in Ammon in 1956. He married Sandra Wood in the Idaho Falls Temple on August 29, 1958 and he graduated from the University of Idaho in June of 1960. He received his Master’s Degree in Natural Science from the University of Idaho in June 1965. Beginning the Fall of 1960, Milton received a contract to teach school in Twin Falls, where he remained until he retired in 1995, after 35 years of teaching. Milton was a talented musician. He played piano and organ, and he had a beautiful tenor singing voice. He taught piano lessons to numerous students in the community. He spent many years singing in a barbershop quartet, “The Freeway Four,” with his brothers Gene Barrus and Clark Barrus and their friend John Cristian. He also spent many years singing in a trio, “Golden Moments,” with his friends Jack VanBuren and Camille Cox. Milton was a member of the LDS church and served in many capacities, including as Bishop and Stake Patriarch. He and his wife, Sandra served a mission in the West Virginia, Charlston mission. He is survived by his wife, Sandra, of Twin Falls, his daughter, Michelle (Robert), of Colville, Washington, his son, David, of Twin Falls, six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Denise (Bill), his mother, father, and 4 brothers. A service will be held at 12 noon on Friday, May 21, at the Twin Falls Harrison Ward, 667 Harrison Street, Twin Falls. Burial will follow at the Hagerman Cemetery. Family and friends may call from 6 to 8 pm at the Rosenau Funeral Home on Thursday, May 20.
