I had never met Wendell but we connected on a Nevada County page on FB. We quickly found friends (and his relatives) in common and enjoyed talking about various memories related to those people. Wendell learned my husband and I were traveling in our RV and invited us to park at his farm as we were passing through his area. We were really looking forward to meeting in person. His hospitality touched our hearts despite not being able to take that trip. His writing pulled you right into the story to see, smell and remember the places he wrote about. We traveled back to Nevada County a few years ago and were driving around the Chicago Park area. I saw a road sign and asked my husband to stop so I could take a picture of it for Wendell. It was the road he grew up on. His fond memories of that place were so specially written about I just had to show him. Again, I didn't know Wendell but his personality and manner made me feel like a friend. I am so sorry he is gone. I will miss his contribution to the world. Please accept my deepest condolences for your loss. Praying for you all, Ruthie Lykins Burke

Loved Wendell's stories about Sunshine Valley. So heartwarming. I wish all the comfort he gave me reading those stories goes back to his family during this time.
