I met Gary while working with him at Albertsons. I just referred to him as "GJ", since I could never figure out the Basque last name. He was pretty quiet guy. I was a pretty quiet guy, I traveled quite a bit. In the Summers (because Gary didn't appreciate Winter), we would meet at Camels Back Park and do a mountain bike ride up Kestrel, to Crestline, to Sidewinder. We had good rides - I know he just appreciated being on the bike in the Boise Foothills. We had great conversation and some good laughter, in the saddles of our bikes. We enjoyed the views. And he liked it best, when it was hot out. Did I mention, he didn't like cold weather rides? Ha!
As he went on to Medical school, we always got together for a quick dinner, to learn the highlights of the latest locations, when he was in town visiting his parents.. He indeed saw some contrasting geographies in his studies - downtown Detroit to soggy green Oregon forests. I appreciated how he always come back to help his parents out. I appreciated that he was an honest soul. That he got to have the Mustang lift in the big garage, and that he always had his bike.

Gary was always such a good friend to me. We became fast friends in medical school. We shared a similar sense of humor which helped us both cope with the stress of school. My wife and children loved Gary too. They referred to him as Uncle Gary. My heart hurts hearing this news. We will always remember him as cheerful and good for a laugh. Until we meet again my friend.
