Obituary of Ruth Schwendiman Jenkins

Ruth Jenkins, 90, of Twin Falls, Idaho, passed away Oct. 31st 2011 from an extended illness.Ruth was born December 4, 1920, in Sugar City, Idaho, to Rulon and Rhea Winter Schwendiman. She spent her early years in Pocatello, Idaho and Boise, Idaho the family then moved to Twin Falls in 1932 where she lived the rest of her life. She graduated from Twin Falls High School in 1938 and then attended the University of Idaho. Ruth married Glen E. Jenkins on January 28, 1940. Together they had 3 children, John Jenkins, Patty Jacobsen and Jim Jenkins. Ruth enjoyed being a member of Blue Lakes Country Club. She served as President of the Ladies Golf Association and was club champion several times. She later joined the Jerome Country Club and enjoyed playing golf with her friends there until her illness forced her to quit. Ruth and Glen enjoyed traveling. One extra special trip took them to Hong Kong about which they brought back stories that were told many times. They also enjoyed their cabin on Warm Springs in Ketchum, Idaho, where family and friends were always welcomed. Ruth belonged to an investment club for many years. We all listened to her advice on how to invest our money. She also was involved with the OAO, (one and only dance club), a Dinner Club with good friends. Ruth loved playing bridge and belonged to several bridge clubs where she made many friends who remained very special to her. She was most happy when her family was around. Most holidays and family parties were held at her home where she always out did herself creating fantastic meals. Ruth is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, John and Mary Jenkins of Twin Falls, daughter and son-in-law, Patty and Glenn Jacobsen of McCall, son, Jim Jenkins and Donna Christensen of Boise, grandsons; Michael Jenkins and wife Jeannie of Twin Falls, David Jacobsen of Boise, granddaughters; Julie and husband Tim Thompson of Virginia Beach, Virginia, and Jamie Ann and husband Todd Dobson of Meridian, and her sister Shirlee Straughn of Twin Falls, 7 great grand children, 1 great great grand daughter and several nieces and nephews who were so very special to her. She was preceded in death by her husband, Glen Jenkins, great grandson, Cam Jenkins, great granddaughter, Tia Marie Thompson and her sister, Jeanne Rountree. The family wishes to thank the many family and friends who have been so caring in so many ways. Also a big thank you to Hospice Visions and to the Cenoma House for the great care they gave her. At Mom’s request, there will be no services. In lieu of flowers please make a donation to a charity of your choice.
