H.E. (Gene) Pollard, 87, passed away at Ashley Manor in Kimberly, ID on Saturday, June 25, 2011from congestive heart failure compounded by Alzheimer’s disease. He was born in Brownsdale, MN, June 1, 1924 to Leslie and Grace Peyton Pollard; his family moved to the Magic Valley in 1931. Graduating from Burley High School in 1942, he was drafted the next year into the Army, serving with the 100th Infantry Division, 397th Regiment, F Co in The Rimling/Heilbron area in Germany, enduring some of the most violent action of WWII – for which he was awarded the Bronze Star. Gene married Artis Roberts, February 4, 1950 in Pocatello and to this union was born: 4 daughters and 2 sons: Nancy (Burl) Duncan, Kimberly, ID, Mike (Kathy) Pollard, Belgrade, MT, Brent (Jan) Pollard, Twin Falls, ID, Debbie (David) Stone, Hazelton, ID, Sharon (George) Swarner, San Antonio, TX, Kay (Bob) Kuhn, Houston, TX; 10 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. A long time member of the Assemblies of God Church, this hard-working, God fearing, and faithful man served his God and his family with equal devotion, often with severe health issues. His retirement years he spent happily working on his little “mountain hide-away” on Squaw Creek, near Riggins, ID, where he intended to spend the rest of his life. Ill health forced a move back to “civilization”. He is now rejoicing in the Presence of God along with his parents, four brothers, a sister and a host of friends and relatives who preceded him in death. His wife, children and their families look forward to being re-united with him in that better place called Heaven. The family extends a heartfelt thanks to the staff of Ashley Manor in Kimberly. They provided tender, compassionate care which provided peace of mind to the family. The family suggests memorials be given to the wonderful work of Hospice Visions, 209 Shoup Ave. W., Twin Falls, ID 83301 without whom this would have been an impossible journey. A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, June 26, 2011 at Rosenau Funeral Home. Family and friends are encouraged to share their thoughts and memories at www.rosenaufuneralhome.com.
