Please share a memory of Royal to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Royal R. Heyer, 98, of Twin Falls went to be with Jesus his Savior on Sunday November 9, 2014. He was born on July 22, 1916 in Hill City, Kansas to Russell C. Heyer and Mollie (Maier) Heyer. He grew up in northwest Kansas, experiencing the Dust Bowl and the Great Depression. After graduating from high school in Edmond, Kansas he moved to Buhl, Idaho with his family in 1937. He worked at Shield's Warehouse in Buhl before entering the Army to serve his country during World War II, mostly in North Africa and Italy as part of an Army Air Corp B-25 bombardment unit. After the war he returned to Twin Falls and worked as a seed analyst for Intermountain Seed Co. During that time he met his spouse, Vera Anthis, and they were married in Twin Falls on April 6, 1947. He passed away at the home they purchased 67 years ago. He was a policeman for the Twin Falls City Police Department during the 50's. He also sold cars for Glenn Jenkins Chevrolet and worked for Intermountain Gas Company. After retiring from Intermountain Gas Co., he and Vera owned and operated a dress shop in the Lynwood Shopping Center. He also adjusted crop claims part time for Farm Bureau Insurance during his retirement. During his long life he enjoyed many days with family and friends hunting, fishing and camping in the Idaho mountains. In his later years Royal enjoyed and appreciated life's simple pleasures, such as gardening and sitting on the patio with his sweetheart of 67 years, feeding and watching the squirrels and birds. He always had a soft spot in his heart for "man's best friend" and treated his dogs as part of the family. His family was always his greatest concern and he wanted to spend as much time as possible with them. He is survived by his wife Vera Heyer of Twin Falls; son Lex (Velda) Heyer of Pocatello; grandson Andy (Rachel) Heyer of Lake Oswego, OR; grandson Bill (Alyson) Heyer of Boise; and six great grandchildren Ava, Addison, Cole and Torie Heyer (Andy and Rachel's children) and Carson and Weston Heyer (Bill and Alyson's children). He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Maurine Leone Meyer. Services will be held at the Twin Falls Church of the Nazarene on Thursday, November 13, 2014 at 2:00 pm. Services are under the direction of Rosenau Funeral Home. Family and friends are encouraged to share their memories at www.rosenaufuneralhome.com
